when i started on the net, when i got my computer, i think 1999, or something, i started on xoom.com media sharehouse getting MP3s, then went to napster, then direct connect, imesh, and finally winMX which is, well, the best. i have morpheus, but i only use it for video and stuff.

what did you use? what do you use now?

Only really bothered with mp3s last year.

Audiogalaxy. Couldn't care if it's considered crap or not.

It's easy to use, and has always had the stuff I wanted available.

I first got Napster, pretty damn obvious. :P

But anywho, now i have WinMX i think it's quite good. Not as confusing for newbies as Morpheus. And yes, i did download it before i had this opinion.... :D

I also listen to the songs in WMP. It has a little mini-version too, so i thought, no need to download Win Amp. But i'm not saying Win Amp is bad.

Another thing i don't like Morpheus, no compact mini-player...... at least not that i know of. :smilewink :P

Lets see...

When I first heard of mp3's back in '96 they were nearly impossible to find, due to dead links, pop-ups etc. I had one mp3 for about 3 years. Green Day- Good Riddance:) At that time, I just started borrowing all the cd's I could and ripped the songs right off of them. Then in 99 napster started, and I actually started using it in 2000 or so. That went down the tubes, so I went back to ripping them off of cd's. Then I used limewire for awhile, but it started to suck 'cause I got more incomplete songs then I did complete ones. So I went back to hunting them down on regular websites. Then I used morpheus for the longest time, but it started to suck due to it only returning 100 results. Now I use WinMX, which for now, works. But I also use FTP sites, the easiest way to get mp3's IMO.

There ya go the complete history of how I got music off the net:D

Does Napster work now?

No, i doubt it very much. But i don't actually know. I didn't use it anymore because it got annoying having to see "Sem 42" or something instead of "Sum 41".

So basically, don't know don't care.

for awhile that was how you got around the block:)

I am highly trained in napster-fu:D

To successfully find a song, you first must know who sung the song. And in the case of the music blockon napster, Dave Matthews Band sang everything

I started searching on websites then I switched to Napster. Now I use Kazaa and WinMX exclusively. WinMX for mp3's because Kazaa only searches for 128kbps and lower, WinMX lets you choose from 320kbps and lower. I let Kazaa download other stuff.

I checked out Kazaa and they woulden't let me download the software, they are having legal problems. Anyway i now use WinMX.

yeah, trippy MX is really great.

dont use kazaa! they use spyware and ad ware, and they're lazy programs, get winMX and do some work for one, napster is crap.

Audiogalaxy.... What's nice about this program is I can setup my computer at home... Go to work, and que up downloads from from while my computer at home does the downloading..

Nice, very nice feature which I haven't found with any other agent.

I use WinMX. TrippyMX must be used with this for the full effect.

Get Trippy!

http://www.trippymx.co.uk/

What it does is add a ton of large servers to your server list.
Im going to try trippy tonight...usaully winmx just says it is fetching servers...and takes forever to do it...sometimes it finds them sometimes it dont...kinda hit and miss...maybe trippy can help..and maybe you can too. I use dsl...and i do not have a static IP...just dynamic....is that why winmx is messing up and will trippy fix it...or iis there a setting to alter winmx to make it proxy friendly...i really dont have a proxy but kazaa thinks i do..so i set it to passive or whatever that option is....

anyone who can help is greatly appreciated

well, you shouldnt use a proxy, disable it in your internet options, it does nothing anyway, except for slow your computer down. thats it.

erm, how do you get them from MIRC?

First, go into a room, for example: #mp3z. Then you have to ask around for the file you want. When someone agrees to send it to you, you get a new window asking you to except an incoming file.

It's definitely not for newbies.
