What do Bob's arrows mean?

Noticed earlier today that Bob #1's arrow was at a downward angle and his slower brother Bob, was straight to the right. What does this mean? Dont remember seeing anything about it anywhere. And.... Am I supposed to keep him right in-between the red and blue "happy" meter, or where it shows him on his info screen, as a "cool" guy?

a downwards arrow means he's tired and he will make mistakes and affect his driving ability. After my first bob got to level 17 I trained a new bob up . After 5 high end races my second bob was level 10 with similar stats to my first bob. By the sounds of it you need a third bob to give your other 2 a rest. ?

Which arrows? I know the Cold/Hot meter determines how he does in races, but there is an arrow above the helmet, that is at a 45 degree angle upwards or downwards, or straight right that I don't fully understand. All I know is it has pointed downwards when my B-spec driver only dominates the competition, and points right/eventually upwards when he is more evenly matched, even if he finishes 3-6th place...

Yes, keep his "hot/cool" meter in the middle as much as you can throughout the race and his arrow will start to improve from orange to green to blue.

It took me about 3 races to his orange arrow up to a green and then another 2 races to get him from green to blue.

I just Ignore them Arrows and Run the Bobs I need for the Races , not had a Problem so far and I don't use Pit Strategy either so they all end up as Knackered Bob's after a Endurance Race

I bet they hate the XP Levelling System as Much as I do :D

Level 28 to 30 Oh Ok so theres no Other Endurance Races to get Major XP for the Bobs so its Grind them to Death on INDY :indiff:

I think i'm on my 8th B-Spec INDY 500 its Stupid :yuck:

I'm not convinced. I only have one driver and have been entering him in races pretty much non-stop for a couple of days. His arrow pointed down for a while when he wasn't winning, then went back up when I changed the car he was using and he ran a few more races that he won (which would kind of disproves the "tired" theory).

I then came to the conclusion that the arrow was indicating how well he was doing (in terms of whether he was winning races or not). This idea then went out the window when he won a few more races and his arrow dropped again.

So, in conclusion, I have no idea.

I think the in-game manual clearly says the arrows represent his current "form". Now how much this "form" affects his actual driving is beyond me.

Also I think this is randomly changed every few races or so and has nothing to do with your orders during the races.

It's just a reason to pick Bob #1 instead of Bob#2 or Bob#3 etc.

The arrows do indeed represent his form, which seems to be a combo of morale and tiredness, with a bit a randomness thrown in for good measure. They don't seem to effect anything though, at least not noticeably.

I have 5 bob's and they all have different arrows. I'll race them 2 races in a row to see if it ever changes the style of driving, of course it does not affect the driving style at all.

I'm not sure why there's so much confusion about the arrows after all this time.

What is certain without room for debate:
  • Bobs with the up arrow will driver better than normal.
  • Bobs with the green, straight arrow drive normally.
  • Bobs with the down arrow drive poorly; worse than a Bob at a quarter of his level.
  • The arrows are not impacted by how much or how little you run them.
  • The arrows are not impacted by what commands you give them in a race.
  • The arrows are not impacted by whether he wins or loses.
  • A Bob's arrow will change, in either direction, with complete disregard for whether you use him or not. It can drop even if you never raced him in forever, and can go up even if you've never stopped racing him.
  • There's a specific pattern that the arrow changes will take, without exception. It will always bounce back and forth from each extreme, of course stopping on the straight arrow in between each end. This means if he's on the blue up arrow he will go to the green straight arrow, then the orange down arrow, then back to straight, then up, then straight, then down, then straight, and so on for all eternity. It will never go from up to straight and then back up. It will never go from down to straight and then back to down. It will never bypass straight to go immediately from up to down or vice versa.

I can say from personal experience that a level 20 Bob with an orange down arrow will post slower laps than a level 5 Bob with a green straight arrow. I had a level 20+ Bob run a race around the Indy oval in a Formula GT but with the down arrow and his laps were slower than my low-level (I believe 5) Bob in the exact same race with the exact same FGT. This is how much difference the arrows make.

Note: I'm not talking about "pace up" and "pace down" pertaining to the hot/cool meter.

Yes and no. depends on the track. At Indy I keep him as hot as I can. Hotter he is faster he drives but more mistakes can and will be made. As indy is a big oval there really isn't much he can do wrong but scrape the wall. On tighter twisting tracks keep him neutral. Cold means virtually no mistakes but one heck of a slow lap.
