Yeah, I definitely prefer road cars. I'm not that interested in hyperkinetic missles, even if they do have incredible corner grip, acceleration, and braking. Racecars are more an excercise in precise timing and quick reactions than anything else.
I prefer the more strategic finesse needed to drive a road car at speed. Because you can't rely on downforce, slicks, and huge power to keep going fast, you really need to take care to be as smooth and efficient as possible. That's much more interesting to me than just being able to accurately hit your target from the other end of a long straight.
I tried to rep this post and got the "must spread some around..."
None the less, an excellent post here. 👍
Although I enjoy both Road and Race cars, Duke's explaination of road cars says nearly everything that needs to be said about why "I" love road cars. Of course, even though I enjoy racing road cars...
I'd say I am split 75/25 road cars/ race cars... I don't really enjoy racing race cars as much and there aren't as many race cars I like to drive.
Sure there are plenty of great race cars but the differences between them is what makes one better than another (IMO). So for cars like the JGTC cars, I love to race them all but there isn't one Supra, Skyline, or NSX in the group that really stands out for me. That's one reason I really love to race the McLaren F1!
Road cars on the other hand have amazing differences, personalities I guess you could say. While it is fun to race a Supra vs Skyline JGTC style, I preffer racing a road Evo vs Sti... Then it's not just a matter of which car is faster but also which car feels better to you.
I mean, when you equip a JGTC Supra with the same specs as a JGTC Skyline there is very little difference in the way they are driven. However, with a comparison of road cars like the Evo and Sti, you get two different worlds of handling characteristics (even though they are equipped the same way with the same drivetrains and all that)...
So with all that said, I go back to what Duke said. 👍 👍
I'm also adding that I really enjoy racing the race cars but not quite the same way as road cars.
I can get a road car out on the Ring and just do laps for the sake of driving, with a race car I need some reason (like an OLR event) to keep me running the Ring (unless it's the McLaren F1!

).
