A crappy thread title, but frankly my brain hurts and I couldn't be bothered.

Anyway, this is one of those weird things that is driving up the wall.

Okay, a taxidermist is a person who stuffs an animal and makes them retain a lifelike state. So, a taxidermist stuffs animals. Surely there must be a better word for stuff, right? Is it taxidermize? Taxidermify? I really would like to know.

in other words, fill in the blank:

The taxidermist _________ the animal.

I do see this becoming a joke thread, but it is a serious question)

I would assume the best word in stuff. Dentists don't dentize teeth. Optometrists don't optometrize anything.

Although I do think Taxoderm is a word....

EDIT: Apparently not. But I did learn that there are three forms of the word in question, two nouns and an adjective. The nouns are the study of ____ and one who does _____. Taxodermic probably just describes an animal this has been done to.

According to wikipedia it is mounting or stuffing.

Professional taxidermists prefer the term "mounting" to "stuffing", and may find the latter offensive.

Why is it when a taxidermist stuffs a couple of beavers it's just "his job", but because I stuff a couple beavers I'm a "man-hoe". Not fair.

Aren't there laws against mounting animals, dead or otherwise?

yes but in a lot of states it just falls under animal cruelty and it's it's a male animal i can't see where people think it's being abused. i personally think it's perverse.

I'll bet there's a t-shirt out there that says "Taxidermists Do It with Animals". And if I were a taxidermist, I'd really want to have one.
