What do you want to see in a video?

I'm finally going to try and put a video together with a few friends. We still need a lot more footage, so I have to get out there and drive more. I was just wondering what you guys would be interested in seeing.

Here are my ideas for videos I want to try and make:
1. An American car video. Self explanatory. I'll try and include just about everything. Has anyone featured the Falcon XR8 yet? I've already got footage, so maybe I'll be the first.
2. Road vs. Race, featuring road cars and their race versions.
3. A possible "drift battle" video. One friend and I try doing twin drifting occasionally, but we can't get close enough without messing up. It ends up looking more like a drift battle, Initial D style, so that's what we'll call it.
4. General drift video. Just featuring whatever.

We plan on doing bloopers for at least one of the videos. Should be plenty of them for the "drift battle" vid. :ouch:

Any more ideas of what you guys might want to see?

That's prety cool, I look foward to watching it (but becuase I'm stuck at Boarding school it'll be a while before I can actually see your video whenever you put it out (but it depends on just when you put it out and when I can go home...)... but best of luck to ya... (I also lack a video capture card so much as I would love to help I can't...yet anyway...)

Far as I know as drifting is concerned not yet for the Falcon, that would be preaty cool though, I have a big love for American Muscle cars (Gabkicks can tell you this well...) so that would be preaty NICE (not that cars from Japan or Europe (but I seam to see more from Japan but then again maybe I don't look hard enough for videos be it GT, RL or anything...)...are bad or anything...)... go for it, if I had a video capture card I would have alreayd released a video or two with a TON of American cars (Corvette Grand Sport, Z06, Mustang SVT Cobra R, etc...)...

Road vs Race would be preaty intresting too, they do things like that in some cases like when Road and Track may sometimes test a road and race version or Best Motoring (examples, the Corvette Z06 and C5R, The E46 BMW M3 and the GTR (before the road version of the GTR was out...)...and even the CLK 320 and CLK GTR (Despite the differences of THOSE cars...)...) that would be preaty good I guess.

One idea would be to test cars like say, the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VII road version and then the rally car or to see how each of them would drift and such... same for the Corvette, RX-7 FD, Elise, etc...

As for a drift battle, that could work too, it would not hurt to mix up the cars, mix up as in not just those from Japan (I only say this since that's what I see a LOT of the time, not it's bad or anything but I suppose I just hear too much about it...) but some of the European and American cars too... and trust me, although I lack replays as proff It's possible indeed as you have figured to send a Z06 sideways no less than an AE86 if you know what you're doing.

As for just a general drift video, that's A OK too, it's your project so I suppose you're free to do as you wish in the end so I have no objections to whatever you may show.

Bloopers would do good too, I mean, I think it's safe to say for ALL of us, new, vet or pro that we all screw up big time here and there if not a lot (should I ask you guys how many times It did take ya to clear the double apex of Apricot hill before you could do it no less than thinking about it?)... but this is just me, I would have it though if I could make a video.

That's about all I can figure, would say more but well...

Till later...

Great big hooters.

No, seriously, it would be cool to see some guys drifting purple S2000s around Midfield. And not all drift shots. That's not necessary. How about just some shots of cars zooming past? A pack of three or four cars in tight formation moving about 130mph down a straight with the camera low to the ground as they shoot past. You could do that with a parked camera car and have all the drivers haul by on both sides.

I have drift tuned versions of most of the American(rwd) cars. The Cobra R is one of my favorite cars, period. I only have replays of my Cobra R, Shelby Cobra, C5R and Falcon so far, so I need to do more driving. The C5R and Falcon are cool, because they are dropped all the way, and there are lots of sparks.

As for Road vs Race, I found a good song to use. Ever hear of Joe Satriani? He has a song called 'Circles' that is perfect for this. It starts out slow and gentle, so I'd have the road cars drifting. The song picks up in tempo, and I'd start mixing the race cars in with some sort of effect. Then there's a hard fast part, and only the race cars will be shown. The hard fast guitar solo part gives way to the slower, softer part again, and footage would switch back to the road cars again.

As for a drift battle, that could work too, it would not hurt to mix up the cars, mix up as in not just those from Japan
You can bet the choices will be mixed. The twin drifting attempt I saved was my friend driving a full power Supra RZ. I know, everyone uses Supras, so no big deal, right? Maybe. But I'm driving a full power Aston Martin V8 Vantage! Maybe I'll be the first person to feature one of those, too.

I don't really know what to do with this one. I'll think of something.

I've only cleared the double apex at Apricot hill a handful of times(3-4 clean passes, ie: no grass). I'm not very good at that one. :guilty

I guess for the four car thing, we could try I-linking. We'd have to get a cable, though.

Nope... GTP's own Bazz had a vid where he drifted a lap of Complex String, and quite beautifully I might add...

Good luck with your vid...

Actually it would take a firewire hub and five or six PS2s. One for camera car, plus another rig for each car you want in the video. It's not worth it, but a very cool concept.

CMD - I dig your avatar. There are lots of pictures of the S2000 on S2ki.com from that angle. Looks really nice.

Oh. I thought you could have two cars on each PS2 for an Ilink battle.

Darn. He probably did a better job than me, too. I'm not very good. My claim to fame is just having a wider selection of drift cars than my friends. I might be able to pull off a clean lap every now and then, and that's just on the tracks I know. $treet King is probably better than me, but at least I can try to make the video entertaining...and be humble about it. :indifferent:

Um, anyone use a GT40 yet? An R390 LM? Astra Tourer? I have those, too. 💡

i always want to see stuff that hasn't been tried yet. when i first saw cudaman's vid, no one had come close to drifting that well in the game, but now i know that most people can... and i didn't think his second video was that great either.
i wanted to try twin drifting... but that's been done =P i still think it looks awesome.

one idea i had was having two cars start at opposite ends of a turn, one taking an inside line and one taking an outside line. unfortunately the replay won't let you take a fixed camera position in the middle... but hey, maybe it can work...

maybe you can show drifts intertwined with normal grip driving... one person takes a grip line, and another person takes a helluva lot stronger car and drifts around him.

i also wanted to make a parody video, featuring the trueno ss vs a F090, with the trueno ss drifting a turn and the F1 ramming it in the back. haha =P but i don't have a cap card, maybe you can do something more creative than that.

i'm not really too impressed with car selection when used in a video. if it's american, it's american, ohh well. it's all FR layout anyway =P

and for music, i like stuff that's not techno/trance or that eurobeat madness that tries to make it like initial d. haha =P

That sounds interesting. It might work, since there are so many different camera angles. There's bound to be one angle that will get a good shot of it.

My friend and I do that sometimes...by accident. One of us will mess up starting a drift, while the other does fine.

We ram each other all the time, too. My entry is always slower(I brake to slow down, then brake again for weight transfer), so my friend will ram me from behind.

I just figure it's nice to see something that isn't commonly used.

I've been thinking of some rock, nice electronic that includes a real string section, and possibly a group that plays rock on cellos.

Gee thanx dude... It is a nice view indeed... I need to check out that S2000 site you mentioned...

Hey guys, I think I might be finished gathering my footage for at least one video. For the 'American Drift' video, I tried to use all of the American cars.

I've got all three Vipers, all three 'Vettes, two Camaros, Shelby Cobra, the GT40, Cobra R, Falcon XR8, and the Escort and Focus rally cars. I left out the Camaro Z28 because it is so similar to the Camaro SS(at least imho), and excluded the PT Cruiser because...well, just because. :sly:

I didn't know how much footage I would need. Is having two tracks(one lap each) per car pretty good? I'm not super consistent, but I only saved my cleaner laps, hoping I could use most if not all of the turns.

I'm going to try recording the footage on my mini DV, then transfer it to my pc, then burn it to cd. Then I can have a friend edit it.

My drifting friend wasn't much help this time, since he's only drifted four different cars(only Supra now). :ouch:

i just wanna see more Drifting and lEss, Powersliding...Well i'm saying this for one resons.

Well, some of you people just want more angel! when there's a fine point between drifting and your just powersliding. so lets just stop the power sliding. and stay with drifting. ^_^

I don't think any of us are looking for more angels in drift vids. BTW, powersliding is just another word for drifting... Before the motorsport existed, they just called it "powersliding"...

;)

Oh i never knew that, but i had a friend who told me, that a lot of people on this fourm were "powersliding" and not drifting, because of the angle. Specifically AWD cars.

Your friend is poorly informed... Powersliding just means using the power of the engine to break traction and slide... Did he see my "No Countersteer" vid?... I can personally guaranty everything in the aforementioned AWD vid IS drifting...

BTW, since it seems you didn't catch the joke...

It's "angle" not "angel"... See the difference...

;)

i guess im kinda late.. but i would like to see good video quality, and something fresh. ur ideas sound good.. just put them all on one video..

The sorta neat thing I'm doing is that some of my footage can be reused. A lot of my 'Domestic Drift' video replays can also be used for my 'Road vs. Race' video.

Doesn't the regular replay mode have a few(three??) different camera angles to use? I could just load the replay again and have different angles used, right? Hopefully that will help keep it from looking too repetitive.

I haven't started recording the video yet. I don't have a capture card, so I was going to use my MiniDV. I have a friend that will help me out with the transfer and do the editing. I don't know how long all that will take. GT4 will probably be out by the time we're done.
