Well, I have a 100 big ones, and I need a good pair of headphones for my MP3 player. I want decent quality, sound, and I hope that they would be comfortable. Do any of you have any suggestions on what kind of buds/over ear head phones I should get?

These will be used while I'm out and about, most likely for long periods of time. :)

I've looked at some over Best Buy's website, and the Apple earbuds seem good, but I don't have an iPod, so I'd feel wierd.

Stuff that seems good:

I realize you're probably looking for something a bit fancier, but my Sony MDR-CD180 is the best pair of headphones I've ever owned or used.

Simple and inexpensive, but with great sound and comfortable to wear. Also quite durable, what with the abuse mine have gone through.

I don't know if you can find them in stores anymore, but a quick Google search revealed that you can get them from an online retailer for less than 20 bucks. Any similarly simple over-the-ear design from a reputable manufacturer would probably work just as well.

I'd give you suggestions on earbuds if I didn't think they were insanely uncomfortable and ineffective.

:yuck: I hate these headphones. You can get much better sound for 100 smackers.

Follow the link in my signature to the head-fi.org forums and snoop around there for opinions and recommendations.

You might like some Grados (SR-60s) if you're comfortable with them. I can't stand the way they feel, personally, but they have pretty good sound/price value.

Sennheiser PX-100s and (especially) Koss KSC-35s are also great headphones for well under 100 bucks.

Mid or full-size cans will become cumbersome if you're out and about. You'll probably like the px-100s or KSC35s as they will better suit your needs. You can't really appreciate expensive full-size cans unless you have a silent listening environment anyway.

If you want earphones, try the Sennheiser CX-300 or the Shure E2c, as they are both excellent earbuds for under $100.

I would definitely recommend getting them through Amazon or something equivalent though. Usually they are much cheaper than the retail stores.

I've had Shure E2Cs for a year and a half now and I absolutely love them. You can get them for around $75, which is really a bargain considering their quality and the warranty which will essentially replace them for free within two years. And I can say that from personal experience when my left earbud just started fading in and out, I sent them back and 4 days later I had a brand new pair of headphones (new packaging & everything) for free.

I don't know how the sound quality compares to the Bose, but for an unbeatable warranty and $25 less I don't think you can go wrong with the E2Cs.

I've just started to look at headphone.com, thanks to everyone who has posted so far. :)

I really like the Shure's....

I'd go with Bose no question.

!

Do not buy Bose products. They sound horrible, are overpriced, and have super-cheap build quality.

Be careful with Shures as well. I like Etymotics much better. I think the E2Cs are very bright and tinny sounding. I'm not a fan of IEMs. PX-100s sound much better.

Hmmm... How do the Ultimate Ears super.fi 3's sound?

Aaaannd.... The Grado SR 60s look cool, and they supposedly sound good. :D

I've always been a loyal Sennheiser user, but after leaving my last pair on a recent flight, I needed a replacement ASAP, as I was at Costco I went to see what they had, figuring that if I don't like them I can always return them and get my money back.

I was very surprised to see them selling JBL's Reference 510 headphones:

Normally they are priced at $150, but Costco had them listed for $100.

I've had them for just over a week now and they are amazing, and even better acoustically than my previous Sennheisers. They also fold up to a surprisingly small space.

In addition, I just got Costco's Summer Coupon book, and they will be having a sale on these for one week starting June 11th for only $50! 👍

I really can't recommend a better set of headphones except for professional over the ear headphones with support for Dolby Multi-channel Headphone technology.

What kind of senns did you have? My uncle was talking about those JBL headphones from costco tonight at dinner. How ironic.

I've got a pair of SR80s and whilst they are good, in my view they are only as good as the source. When I use them with my ipod, in my opinion, they just sound overly bright and lack any bass (even with the equalizer although I don't like using it). In the end I settled for a pair of Koss PortaPros. You might get some intriguing looks walking around with them on your head but they're really comfortable, extremely portable (can be folded up into a 'little ball') and you'll save a fair amount; plus they sound good on the move when using the ipod without needing to resort to using the equalizer or a portable amp.

I was in the same position as yourself looking for headphones for my ipod when I got the SR80s then the PortaPros. In between I also bought a pair of ER6is, which were alright, but the cables are really thin and really aren't suited to being used on a regular basis outside the house.

Hope i've added to helping you choose.

Koss Pro 4 AA Titanium headphones are definately the best headphones I've ever owned. They're kinda pricey ($100,) but, are without a doubt, the absolute best headphones on earth. They also have the Pro 3 AA's for about $60, and then the 'base' model for $20. All of which, have superior sound quality. Professional grade for not too much is the way to go. Or....you could always just stop by a dollarstore, and pick up a junker set of earbuds from them....if you're not about the sound.

My last pair that I left on a recent flight was the PXC250. I've had two previous Sennheiser headphones, but I do not recall their model numbers, both of which I also lost while on a trip.... I've got a bad habit of leaving them on airplanes and hotels. :ouch:

I probably still have the receipts for the older Senns which should list the model numbers, if it is important I can search for them.

I prefer the use of headphones when I'm at home and the use of earphones when I'm outside. Most good quality headphones looks too big to wear when I'm out of the house.

Yeah. This never happened. I ended up needing a bike.... ( Old one was ran over) :ouch:

Locked.

Why lock it? Other folk may wish to contribute to this thread with their own thoughts as DWA just did.
