What Fanatec Pedals To Get?!

Hello,

I have the standard CSR pedals and I think they are great, especially after tweaking the brake/gas pedal travel and tension. They are definitely an upgrade from my old Driving Force Pro pedals. However, I'm kind of itching for something more. As content as I am with the CSRs, I was thinking of getting the Inversion Kit for it, or maybe get new pedals with a load cell and/or ABS vibration. I could upgrade to the CSR Elite pedals with the Inversion Kit for the price of ClubSport Pedals, but I'd be missing the ABS feature and maybe more (handbrake?). The rSeat does a decent job of transferring the ABS vibrations from the wheel to my pedals, but something more substantial would be nice. Could the ABS vibration be added to a CSR Elite pedal set? Maybe an auxiliary motor?

Also, I was playing Dirt 3 last night and really jonesed for a handbrake. I know the CSP's PCB has an area labeled for the handbrake, but has anyone every tried soldering pins and setting something up? Should I wait for the ClubSport Handbrake to come out before I make a new pedal purchase? Then again, if having only manual sequential in the 360 version of Dirt 3 is any indication, there won't be any handbrake support in there, either...like Forza 4 supposedly has.

Maybe I'll get the Inversion Kit for my CSR pedals and wait until more ClubSport products to come out. Thoughts?

SOMEONE SPEND MY MONEY FOR ME. KTHXBYE! :nervous:

Thomas stated to me via PM that their will be a solution for the hanbrake and the CSR Elite pedals. He never commented on what it would be though. I was concerned and wanted to know for my own (overdue comparison).

The vibration motor cannot be added to the CSR Elite pedals. It would require a new PCB and you cannot easily remove the soldered wires for the loadcell etc. Additionally CSP use sensors for pedal depression and positions while the Elite pedals do not.

My advice would be to get CSP if you like the "brake vibration" feature at really the expense of having simple inversion. The CSP as noted are a bit stronger but to be perfectly honest the Elite pedals with the inversion kit are really good too.

In either case you are getting pedals better than what the T500RS comes with and much better than G27 pedals too. However my own personal thoughts are that customers should get a discounted price buying the CSR Elite Pedals and the Kit as a package. The pricepoint is to similar against the CSP yet the CSR Elite pedals are more modular and better suited for d.i.y cockpits.

In my opinion the CSP are not better in every way and for some the options of the CSR Elite pedals may have the edge with easier and more installation options with the kit.

I just map my sequential shifter's downshift to the handbrake in DiRT 3, works great.

Means you have to use the paddles to shift, but I don't mind this too much since there was a period that this was how WRC cars worked, although I believe they've gone back to sequential shifter again at the moment....

If you think about it, you're always downshifting at such time as you want to use the handbrake, so you can keep your left hand on the downshift paddle and your right hand is free to tip the sequential shifter.

Hrmmm. I figured the paddles and sequential shifter were sending the same commands. I'll have to try it out, then. Thanks!

I think I'm going to order the inversion kit...but I feel $67 shipped is a bit steep for brackets and bolts. The inversion kit is the same price I paid for the pedals. hah. I'll wait on the CSPs for now. Thanks Mr Latte.

Depends on the game and on platform. I'm doing this on the PC version of DiRT 3, not certain if the console version(s) work differently.

oh. -______________-

Yeah, I kinda figured that. I'll have to check when I get home.

You can map the buttons on the wheel to whatever you want on the console versions......on Xbox for example you go into controller config, scroll to the control you want to change, press A to highlight it and then press whatever button on the wheel you want to control that function and the game maps it. On D3 I had the clutch pedal mapped for e brake

I received the inversion kit for my CSR pedals last week. I inverted my clutch and brake pedals. I had initally had a stiff brake, but softened it up/lengthen the travel a bit after inverting the two pedals. I'm pretty content with the setup now. However, it does make the pedal set a bit bulky and heavy. I may need to get something to prop the pedals up a bit on the rSeat pedal platform. At the same time, I can't angle the pedals too much or it won't fit under the table my TV is mounted to...

Load cell (CSP or CSR Elite pedals) - get one. Makes a world of difference.

I'm probably going to get the CSPs or whatever is the latest and greatest...but only after the ClubSport Shifter and Handbrake are out. As much as it "makes a world of a difference", I hear too many load cells failing...

I own CSPs, and have also tried out some CSR Elites a friend of mine purchased.
In my humble opinion stock CSR elites did not compare performance-wise to the CSPs.
Modifying CSR Elites the way you did the CSRs will probably enhance their performance.
The CSR Elites also use a Load Cell as Mr. Latte pointed out.
The vibration function is great, but not all games support it.

The CSPs currently have an advantage over CSR Elites in the tuning kit.
Fanatec does not currently offer a similar item for CSR Elites.

Swapping out a couple of the springs for the gas and clutch, and the foam and steel bar for the brake really improved my CSPs. (details are available here on this thread by Delphic Reason): https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=129773

Fanatec does offer spare Load Cells for sale, I have had my pedals for over 6 months and use them almost every night, fortunately I have had no problems with the Load Cell to date, but I purchased a spare in case.
Fanatec's Load Cell stock on hand seems to vary though.

CSPs also benefit from periodic maintenance, like making sure the screws holding the sensors are kept nice and tight, and keeping key parts lubricated.

I also added a set of Tilton style pedals to my CSPs and really like them, I don't know if the pedal mounting holes are the same for CSRs and CSPs.

Since you have an rSeat, pedal inversion will probably be much easier with the CSR elites, but I think you could probably drill a couple of extra holes in something like this sold by X-CPO to invert CSPs on an rSeat:

I have tried them all, club sports all day every day. I'll feel 100% safe stamping on my csp they are so solid. No fear of damage. You need a load cell brake, so elite or club sports but club sports for me.
