What games made you...

What game made you buy the games console? For me it was Gran Turismo 4. I bought a new slimline PS2 so I can play GT4. I also bought a PS1 way back to play Gran Turismo 2. I love the GT series... :) So what games made you buy the game console for it?

EDIT: I also bought a Game Boy to play Mario Kart. :dopey:

Bought a PS1 for armored core, bought a 64 for perfect dark, bought a gamecube for rogue sqaudron and smash bros, bought a xbox for fable and forza, didnt like forza that much so traded in the xbox for a slim PS2 and GT4 after remembering how much fun GT2 was :)

I recieved a playstation after much begging because of tittles like Jet Moto, Twisted Metal 1 and 2, Resident Evil, Armored Core, and Doom. It wasn't until somone gave me GT1 a year after I had the thing that I fell in love with the series. Since the playstation 2 was certain the have sequals to most of these games (espeacially GT3) plus the ability to play all my old tittles I had to have one of those obviously. The choice was much harder this time around with MS and Sony both having good systems but once again thoughts of a future GT game and a more future proof format along with pretty good backwards compatibility sealed the deal for my new ps3.

NES - Super Mario Bros.
SNES - Super Mario World
Sega Genesis - Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles
Nintendo 64 - Super Mario 64
Game Boy Color - Pokemon Blue
GameCube - Super Smash Bros. Melee
PS2 - Gran Turismo 3
Wii - if I had to name one, it would either be Super Smash Bros. Brawl or Metroid Prime 3.

Coming from someone who bought most of their consoles later in life, I can only do a partial assessment of this.
Mega Drive/Genny: Sonic 1 (pack-in game FTW!). I still remember going to Wal*Mart and getting the Genny. And I was like, 2 years old. And it was my oldest memory. Sad, isn't it?
Master System (bought 2 years ago): Sonic 2.
Game Gear (bought 3 years ago): Sonic 2 (I have a rather unhealthy obsession with the 8-bit version of Sonic 2).
Game Boy Advance: Super Mario Advance. Or, more truthfully, Pokemon Gold (200 hours of my life are in that game).
Saturn: NiGHTS...Into Dreams
N64 (bought used, about 3 years ago): GoldenEye 007
Playstation: Need For Speed III.
Playstation 2: Grand Theft Auto: Vice City.
Dreamcast: Sonic Adventure.
Sega CD (bought 2 years ago): Lunar: The Silver Star.
Sega 32X (bought 3 years ago): I'll get back to you on that on Friday. I want Chaotix, however. Badly.
Neo-Geo Pocket Color: Sonic Pocket Adventure.
Game.Com: I dunno what I was thinking.
SNES (bought 2 years ago): Super Mario All-Stars
NES (bought 3 years ago): Ghosts 'n Ghoblins

Game.Com: I dunno what I was thinking.
Same here. I didn't even want to mention it.

Would computers count at all? I begged my parents to replace our aging Macintosh with a shiny new PC back in 1996, all for Mechwarrior 2:

Ahh. Mechwarrior 2. The father of Interstate '76. Good times.
I remember begging mom to buy a compy for I76.

I still have the original CD for the game, and that YouTube video is mine. The CD has been disc doctor'd once or twice, and the music on the upper end of the track numbers is starting to go, so I recently backed it up as an image on the hard drive.

I, too, remember Interstate '76. I used to just drive around with my 180' wheel and its wheel-mounted throttle and brake pedals. I played The Need for Speed a lot more, though.

I76 + GlideWrapper + Pretty Much any graphics card made after 2001 = Awesome.

The first games I ever got addicted to were Super Mario World SNES and Mariocart SNES, I blame them for everything that has happened since.

I forgot to add that I bought S-Nintendo for some Mario Game, Game Cube for Super Smash Bros Melee, and Nintendo 64 for Mario Kart too.

I got my playstation for Christmas, but I really wanted one on account of Toney Hawk's Pro Skater and Jet Moto.
PS2 - Final Fantasy X
Gamecube - Zelda (the collectors edition disc with all the old games on it.)
Xbox - Fable

I have no plans to buy another console though out of lack of time to play games nowadays. I may end up buying a 360 sometime just so I can have something to keep me entertained in downtime.

I think there have been just two games that clinched a console purchase for me. Both were Playstations:

1) Dragon Quest VII / Playstation(modded)
2) Gran Turismo 3 / Playstation 2

Not as much as the first two, but two more games that kind of had the same effect:

1) Blue Stinger / Dreamcast
2) Gran Turismo 4 / PS Two(slim)

DWA
I dunno if I'll get a PS3 but it would only be for GT5

Well... apparently I was a little off. I got it for GTHD. :dopey:

Actually, I'm Banking on DiRT and GT5 is looking better after the demo too.

Cool thread- do Game&Watches count as consoles?
I've had a whole pile of consoles, but the ones that stand out:

Can't remember console: Pong built in.
Atari 2600: Missile command (I must have been 3-4 yrs old)
Atari Lynx: Slimeworld - Anyone else remember that?
Gameboy Colour: Bomberman
Sega GameGear: Sonic
SNES: F-Zero
Sega Megadrive: Altered Beast & Sonic
PS1: Wipeout
PS2: GT4

Yeah, lol I feel the same way, I bought a portable TV to play GT3 on the go.

ANYTHING you bought for a game counts, including stuff out of the world.
