Just a quick thread. I love this new song from Pendlum ft In Flames. It's kinda a mix of DnB and Metal although mostly Metal. Anyway does anyone know of what I can search for to get some similar songs?

Edit: (Thanks for all the replies, very interesting and thanks for some more videos :D, I thought it was best not to bump this.)

Pop. Maybe Rock. I dunno, I hear guit/bass/drum/vocal in 4/4 following pretty traditional formulas. A little distortion shouldn't make somebody genre-defying.

Edit: Not that there's anything inherently wrong with that...

 The ignorance in this thread is overwhelming.

My first intentions is to call it industrial.. But it could have a second alternative in a very unknown sub-genre called "Cyber Metal." A lot like industrial but with some trash built in. But with In Flames being a Melo Death band I would just call it Industrial.

If that song was something you liked and are looking for more of it. Sybreed and A Dark Halo are loaded up with similar stuff but with more heart pounding drums. Far from crap...

Just to clarify, I haven't heard the song were I posted that, I just find genre discussions always a bit "useless" and funny. ;)

I listened to it now and have to say it's really difficult, the rythmic is clearly Drum 'n' Bass (I mean, it's still Pendulum), but because of the Metal elements I would also call it Industrial, or just "a mix between Metal and D'n'B".

This music is just boring, uninspired, and lacks any traces energy. And I swear these clean singing parts in metal is like peanut butter and tuna fish. Either go one way or another. Stick with one thing and make it awesome instead of going for two things and being mediocre at both. Also electronic/industrial parts in metal is something only a handfull of bands can pull off, and these guys just can't.

That time of the month?

I agree with Prosthetic. The genre or genres you are looking for, are among the Industrial, Electronic and Nu Metal

Some other bands can include:

Celldweller:

Static X

Fear Factory

And some of the new in flames sound quite like that, most prominently on Reroute to Remain and Soundtrack to your Escape album.

And punk rock, not?

How can you doubt the energy of Punk? Punk is about atmosphere, energy, and honesty. This music, is about being lame, showing off needlesly, playing dungeons and dragons (whilst being a virgin), and the inabillity to produce anything satisfying to the ears. I have been to many shows and if you can tell me you didn't have fun at a punk show, you must have something wrong with you. Also comparing that band to Fear Factory is an insult to Fear Factory. This band is just flat out annoying.

EDIT: Just look up A Wilhelm Scream and tell me punk rock is boring. Try also while you're out: Strung Out, Rancid, Off With Their Heads, and Propaghandi.

What the hell do you base this on? And I'm sorry but if your talking about not pleasing to the ears.. Punk is the least satisfying stuff that I've ever listened too. Just because a band hops around like bunnies to some whinny lyrics doesn't make it good. At least not to me. And if you want atmospherically stuff you can't compare anything to metal because its so loaded down with crazy **** that sounds nothing like anything else in the world.

I honestly don't know what your getting at, or how you can make claims based off nothing but put them off as facts.

...And people wonder why us metal heads hate everything else... I wonder if you guys can figure it out now.

Aparantly you haven't heard any punk bands. I am both a punker and a metal head. I just don't appreciate cheesy ass stuff like this band. And In Flames, Soilwork, etc. etc. just piss me off. Metal = Cannibal Corpse, Pantera, Slayer, Megadeth, etc. Not any of this stuff. Punk Rock is completely misjudged as everyone thinking Sum 41 and Blink 182 are punk bands. Do some research, and we'll have a discussion.

I've listened to plenty of punk and never liked any of it past the age of 13. Before then, I thought everything that was catchy was good. But I love your assumptions please keep making them because they seem to always be spot on.

Oh come on, that is not true! I've been a metalhead since Master of Puppets came out (ca. 10 years old) and though I still consider myself a metalhead (or metal tolerant, ha!) I still enjoy so many other genres of music, and even not metal-related.

Still no examples. Post up some punk bands you've listened to.

Yeah, metalheads that pretend not to enjoy other types of music to make themselves look harder are pathetic.

Just like I always post, musical taste is pretty subjective, nobody is ever going to agree on which genre/band owns/sucks. There is no way to prove that punk is superior to metal or that metal is superior to punk, so what's the point?

Either way, it doesn't make much sense to argue about, if somebody likes it, let them like it...if you don't like it, make your own thread about a type of music that you do like.

I didn't realise Pendulum has changed to this style (first time I've heard anything in their new album).

Personally I don't think the metal/rock and d'n'b mix works very well in that song (especially the screamy vocals) - just stick with one or the other, me thinks. I'll listen to their other songs first to pass a final judgement though.

To Silverzone,

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mind punk rock, and I guess I would had pretty good fun in a punk rock concert, but then again, I would have pretty good fun in any other non punk rock concert. But the genre itself, studio speaking and in my opinion, get’s quite repetitive after a while.
It’s something I do not find in Heavy Metal, probably due to the range variety of genres and to tell you the truth, I quite like this Pedulum feat. In Flames song, it has a quite nice vibe to it and it’s pleasing to my ears. In Flames, Soilwork are actually some of my favorite bands of all time, though, I can’t really stand Cannibal Corpse, at least, not with that vocalist. It just don’t get through my ears and I comfortably listen to almost every metal genre there is, from Death Metal, to Progressive Metal, all the way to Trash Metal, actually passing through some Nu Metal, Metalcore, Mathmetal and others. Is it correct for me to say that cannibal corpse is only noise or a guy grunting some lyrics? I don’t think so.

I don’t want to argue with you, but I do hate when people start “flaming” (not the best word) one genre or another. And I hate when “metalheads” start “flaming” other genres as much as the other way around.
I personally don’t like hip hop and rap but, there are people who like it. Is it correct for me to say that hip hop or rap is boring, uninspired, lacks energy and is for kids who think they are gangsters. I don't think so.

It's nothing personal I just enjoy debating music! It gets me through my days. I understand about the non love for Cannibal cause they are an aquired taste. My style of debating may come off as flaming, etc. It's just all in good fun though.

In answer to the OP, That would be DnB, just not as you know it.

You can make a good comparison of this style if you listen to Pendulums first two albums - 'Hold Your Colour' and 'In Silico'. The former is a DnB tour-de-force, whilst the latter is more rock orientated. This actually sounds like an amalgam of the first two album styles. 👍
