What happened to all the WWII FPS?

I disagree. Lots of kids my age like the 'stealth' games, but they aren't nearly as vocal about it as the kids that prefer the '7331 quickscoping' (which is one of the worst things to ever happen to FPS in my opinion).
Hence why I said "most", not "all" - there's always someone who bucks the trend ;)

EDIT: @ Sharky, don't do FPS on consoles. Match made in hell. ;) This is why I've always avoided online console play for the most part. Consoles attract a younger audience.
Heh, I know. I (at least originally) played FPSs (COD4/MW2, BFBC2) on PS3 because that's where the guys in the MW2 thread were playing on - well, that and the fact I didn't have a computer capable of running games until the middle of last year  Now that I have a fairly good gaming rig I have shifted away from console, and am actually considering picking up MW3 on PC if I like what I see in the MP reveal :)

I have BFBC2 on PC now too, and although I haven't played it much at all the difference between PC and console players couldn't be more stark - on PS3 I swear 75% of your team were bush wookies camping in spawn. but on PC you'd be lucky if your team has more than four or five recon on it!

What about the Cold War??

Bit boring, non?

No actual combat (unless you include anti-communism wars, of which FPS already exist) just a stand-off.

Sorry to keep on, but I believe there is a BF2 mod based on the idea of WW3 breaking out across Cold War Europe as the Soviets tried to invade.

Well "Red Orchestra 2" is coming out soon though it is PC only and is not really mainstream I guess.

Other then that I really hope that we get a WWII expansion for BF3 or even better that the next BF game will be in a WWII setting. I think and feel that gamers need a WWII game now with the improvements in technology and what not on the PC front at least, its been a while since last time.

Also speaking of WWII games I recommend "Hidden and Dangerous" for me they are far better then COD, and I feel they where more innovative, except for the controls which could put some people of, but I love the series and I am still hoping for a third installment.

If that's what you're looking for, then you could try The Saboteur. I haven't played it, so I don't know if it's any good or not, but, it seems to fit your criteria.

Saboteur is fun for a while, but after some time spent playing it...it just felt like a GTA clone in a WWII setting. Just Cause 2 is like Saboteur except it does everything muuuuuch better. It doesn't have a WW2 setting, but if you're considering Saboteur I'd buy Just Cause 2 instead.

on topic:
Medal of Honor Allied Assault is probably my all time favorite FPS, and I'm not even much of a shooter guy. I remember it having decent online play too, plus a fantastic story. I doubt I can even find the CD anymore, but I'd love to play that one again.

I have to admit, that when I'm at the airport waiting for connecting flights, I like to play a little classic Wolfenstein 3D on the Iphone. The controls are naff and I know there are considerably better games for the Iphone but it's entertaining and has great nostalgia value.

Meh, the Saboteur kinda sucked. Was more of a GTA style game with bad controls. Story is kind of cool, but thats all the game really has got going for it.

OT, it's been a while since we've had a great WW2 FPS for consoles. With the hardware we have these days, someone could make a really awesome one and bring them back to life.
I play games like Black Ops and MW2, and then pop in MOH Frontline into my PS2. The gameplay just seems so outdated, even though the game itself is still amazing. It would be nice to see a new WW2 game being made.
