Hi everyone,

First, let me apologize if this question has already been answered definitively.

Q: If I go to Save data utility>GT5 gamesave, press Triangle, and 'copy' it to a USB drive (resulting in a /PS3 folder). Can I then use that 'backup' copy on a new PS3 if my current one dies?

I ask this because I heard when GT5 first came out that you could not backup your saved game, etc.... they didn't want people 'cheating' and copying savegames, which I understand.... but there MUST be a way to backup your own save...... SOOOO much work goes into it!

Has this issue been sorted out? My brother's PS3 just died, and he has a new one.... never backup up. What would happen if I tried giving him the copy of my save on usb? Would that work?

Sorry again if this has already been sorted.

Thanks

You need your old PSN for your old gamesave

Thanks Noisia!!

So are you saying that if I copy to USB, then my PS3 dies, I can just log into my old PSN account on the new PS3 and load the game, no problem?

Thanks,

Yes, if it acts like said, thats what you have to do. It only works with YOUR account.

Thank you, that gives me peace of mind, knowing that my GT5 data won't be lost if my PS3 dies

Thanks again for taking the time to answer :)

Oh thank you guys, now I am not afraid of my PS3

I didn't want to start a new thread so I revived this one :scared:.

Question is, my PS3 just got the YLOD/RLOD whatever it's called. I have my game save backed up on a thumb drive but will I lose my photo-mode pictures or replays?

Thanks guys/gals.

Yes. Photos/replays/tracks/record times and many garage thumbnails will all be lost. You can rebuild all of the thumbnails at once(well, twice ;) ) but it will take rather a while.

But at least you'll keep the cars and game progress which are usually what matters most. No need to re-run the Vitz Cup or Top Gear Lotus race or save up for another Mark IV.

I was afraid so :grumpy:. Thanks for the reply Morgoth_666:tup:.

One other thing...keep in mind that saves can be corrupted. This happened to me with my duping account, I went to reload my thumb drive save to bring back all the stuff I had just sent to my main account and the save was corrupted. In this case I didn't lose all my data, just the stuff I sent out that day, but if I had had the YLOD that day, I would have lost everything on my duping account.

So now I take my thumb drive save and back it up to my computer hard drive and keep all the older saves just in case the latest one is corrupted and your PS3 dies. That way you can go back a few weeks and find a good save. You don't get to keep everything you have up to date, but it's far better than starting over.

Another question: if your ps3 dies and you have to reinstall, what happens to your dlc? I have my game progress backed up but wasn't sure if I should be backing anything else up (i.e. the game data). Or will the playstation store recognize that I have already purchased it and allow me to download again for no further cost?

It will recognize what you have downloaded in the past and allow you to again at no charge. I had to do this when my launch "fattie" died on me a few months back.

:grumpy:OK, i Just got the YLOD. I think i saved it on a flash drive right before it was acting up. (hopefully) BUT my question is....How do you get your disc out from the PS3??? I try to turn it on and it just shuts off not allowing me to eject game???? (GT5):indiff:

Try sending it to Sony, there is no other way to get the disk out. It will cost you in the region of about £100 though

Try this. Hopefully it'll work for ya:

Mine is the 60gb just tried that, doesnt work. But thanks for the suggestions.

Maybe I'll just dismantle it to get the disc. I don't think its worth fixing.👎

I think he's missed something out from that vid... I had to keep switching on and off repeatedly at the switch at the back and holding down eject button before the fan kicked into life and it would eject the disc...

there are several variations on this trick I had to trying using different vids until I found one that worked...

I just took my PS3 apart to get GT5 out!:ouch: If thats what I had to do, I Did!

There's only a few screws (I'm thinking maybe 6?) holding the drive together, it's not too hard to get apart. I had to do it to get GT5 out of mine when I finally destroyed my old 80GB. If you pay a little attention you can even do it and get it back together without breaking anything, just in case you might have some use for the drive somewhere in the future.

EDIT: Oops, looks like you got it. I must've missed a post.

Yes, it was quite easy to take apart. About ten screws or so.👍

If he still has his old PS3, take it out and transfer the data from the old hard-drive to the hard-drive in the new PS3.
My friend is having to do that.
