What is likely to happen to GT Sport when GT7 released

I can imagine the lobby will still be useable until they switch the servers off.
No doubt dailies and FIA will move over. I can't see them doing separate dailies for both platforms.

No I don't think anything will change, there's too much competition now and people like me would just quit GT if they treated us that badly.

Wait they shut the servers for GT6 5 months after GTS came out. but then GT6 was release about the same time as the PS4 so they had over 4 years for people to have upgraded there consoles. It's a hard one to really call, but I'd say they need to keep the servers going for at least another 2 years for people like me (and I'm not uncommon) who only upgrade there console when it's cheap enough and there are few games I still want to play on the old one.

They shut GT6 servers off not long after GTS came out, and they will probably do the same with GT7. Don’t expect to have online working for much longer after GT7 comes out.

I did say that, but the difference is that the PS4 was 4 years old so people just had to buy the game. There are over 100 million PS4 around and what 10 million PS5s?

I think most folk, including PD, are a little surprised as to how well GTS has hung in there. Initial reception was luke warm but the "middle aged dad" crowd has no other avenue for pick up, play in a decent lobby, type racing. ACC, Project Cars etc all fine games but on another level of seriousness.

I suspect GT7 will be late, yet again , so 18 months away at least, and I can see most of us having a new console by then so the issue goes away.

The scheduled daily races were a masterstroke from PD, absolute masterstroke.

It’s simple, when GT7 come on market, they will anytime later take GT Sport outside the store and anytime later, too, take the Servers down. So, as I think you can game for a wile further on PS4 online. Look like Driveclub.

GTSport will be online at least through the end of this new FIA season. But yeah there's so few PS5s in the wild they're probably holding off the GT7 release to keep the hype up.

I'm planning on getting a PS5 at the end of the summer, when people are projecting that availability should be good. That way if there's another availability crunch around the holidays and GT7 does somehow manage to be released by then, I'm all good to go.

There's a chance it may just keep going. As a Classic back catalog game for PS5 /PS4. No further updates but playable. Which then comes down to PS4 support and network compatibility. And there's a chance they may extend that longer than usual due to the number of online players playing all the other games, GTA, Fortnite, Animal Crossing, etc...
They could effectively use the PS4 to sell more PS5s.

Last year may have been a boom for all games. Sim Racing in general too. And I think many are underestimating the success of GT Sport. It's the GT game that introduced the FIA Championships. With the winners actually going to the real life FIA awards. Not just a milestone for racing but all sports games.

They also shut GT5 servers down 6 months after GT6 came out. I wonder if they'll patch in offline saves at Eol.

Anyway support for GTS has already ended, no more content, no more fixes, rehashed dailies.

Could GTS servers still function for cross platform Daily Races and FIA?

Maybe PS4 users won't have access to GT7 offline, but could it be shared via loan cars/tracks online? I mean, if there is an FIA One Make at say, Daytona in a NASCAR. PS4 users couldn't enter because they don't have the car nor track on PS4. However, via online, they can connect and have access to that track and select the car. Is that possible? I don't know, it's why I'm asking.

Would the physics be/are we expecting physics to be that different from console to console?

As for PS5 GTS processing speed , as noted by Jordan, there is a difference. Would that translate to PS4 users versus PS5 users?
I get that Sony/PD want to sell PS5s. I get that. Just asking about the possibilities of cross platform play for online only, in such a scenario.

No go, the game is on your console and the data that is transferred when playing is just that. It tell the server where your car is on the track and tells you where others are. Cross platform is fine, but you need to be playing the same game. It's not like Stadia where the game is on the server and all the info needs to be transferred and for that let us be thankful.

I get what you're saying but that would really negate me going out and buying a PS5 and GT7.
They will still support it in a way whilst it's servers are online. Maybe they'll give GTS 1 weekly race or something, but their online focus will definitely be on GT7.

I hope GT 7 is on the shelves by holiday season 2021, especially since many people feel its late right now anyways. I think the only reason GTS has the staying power it has is due to Covid.

My prediction is you'll have 6 months from GT7 release date (whenever that might be) to when they shut the servers off and GTS becomes fairly useless - remembering you need an online save in GTS, so if the servers are off how can you save? But the big question is, when will GT7 drop? Hopefully after PS5 comes down in price substantially so the tight a**es like myself can afford one.

I'd forgot that, not that the offline game is that good, compared to every previous title, but no servers and it's totally useless. Well if GT7 does that too it might not be worth getting.

You can't be serious that GT7 might not be worth getting if its an online save only game?? If you bought GTS early in its life span you have had years of playing it right now already, well worth the $60 or $70 it costs if you ask me. When adding up the hours I have played and still do play it must be costing me pennies or less per hour by this point, where else can you get entertainment this cheap??

Yes but I still pick up GT3 or more so GT4 to play and enjoy. If GT7 is anywhere near as good as those games I might want to pull them out in 20 years, but can't. Yes that is something that would influence me, especially since I still have to be convinced on getting a PS5.

I have played GT since the original, I still have all of my PS consoles going back to the original PS along with the GT discs and memory cards should I want to take them out for a drive again but I dont think I have done it since we were on GT3 and I test drove the original GT. Even with online saves only you might still have all of the game data available to you should you want to try out an old game there just won't be servers to race, isn't that the most likely scenerio??

Possible, but unless they change this game you can't progress without online saves as far as I know. No internet and your stuck with what you can do that day. For this game it's not really an issue as there is no career mode and the likes, but GT7 is supposed to be a worthwhile offline game like the older games. See what happens, but this online saving garbage puts me off especially as I live in the back of beyond and sometimes have days with no internet. Things are getting better and we're getting a fibre cable "soon™" but it is a consideration.

They might have a dedicated save server so people can still do online saves, but disable lobbies and daily races. Unsure how they're planning on proceeding with it. But if they do kill the server completely that will kill the game and with it probably p**s a lot of people off.

It might be possible to patch it so we can save locally, if so fine.

I thought the servers were for racing and game saves are on the cloud??? Isn't that 2 different things? I'm not real up on techie type stuff.

You might be right on that. I don't know how these things work either - I just know you need to be connected to save and to race online. If it's two separate things like you say then maybe it all works for the game in the future.

To add to the confusion, it's not just cloud storage and servers but also peer-to peer networking.

Theoretically GTS lobbies could be peer-to-peer powered. Sony would only need to supply minimal support on existing technology. And as I mentioned before they could continue advertising games, PS+ subscriptions and PS5s on the PS4.

It's going to be new ground. Technology is multifaceted and advancing fast. Companies pivot to meet consumer demands or something new and shiny comes along to replace it. So who knows?

As I understand it peer to peer is just for lobbies (online racing). If peer to peer was involved in other areas one would think you could share fast lap ghosts between members.
