I've not driven any of the rally cars in the game yet, but I think as long as you go with either the Peugeot 206, Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, or the Subaru WRX, you'll be a winner.

I bought the Subaru Impreza 22B and tuned it up to rally, it won me the all the rally races (and the Escudo). You may not want to lighten it all the way to Stage 3. I did and it leaves the ground a bit too easily!
