Something for me to work on...I need the most effective way to lose fat in my legs/thighs/rear area.

Excercise/diet techniques, anyone?

There is no genuine way to loose fat in a specific area purely through exercise. Where your that is deposited is purely genetic.

It is possible to ton eyour legs and thighs and prevent "flabbiness" but the actual reduction in fat would require a complete body fat reduction.

But anyway, aerobic exercises will give tone. Jogging, cycling, rowing etc. And you can build muscle by doing weighted squats and lunges.

I'm ignorant of exercise to the extreme, can you give me some examples of some effective aerobic exercises for my need?

Also you spoke of toning down my legs...please elaborate.

Aerobic exercises are your basic fitness things. For example, going for a jog, or even a walk. Then there's also cycling or going on a rowing machine. All have their pros and cons.

For example jogging gives good fitness, but there's alot of impact as your feet hit the ground. Not good if your overweight or you have joint problems.

Cycling is good and there's less impact involved. But it's easy to take it easy going down hill.

Rowing gives a good alround excercise, but you need a rowing machine. Or a small boat.

Toning is not so much building muscle, but kind of "tensing" what is there. It basically keeps the muscle doing lots of tiny contractions that makes the muscle feel firmer. To improve tone you need to work the muscle lots and often but not neccesarily hard.

For guides on how to do exercises, this is a generally good site. www.bodybuilding.com. Simply use the search feature to find excerises for certain muscles.

I recomend Dunmb bell squats for Quadrecepts (front of thigh)

And for hamstrings (back of thigh) Lunges.

Fat works on the cafeteria tray principal. Imagine a stack of cafeteria trays on the cart in the lunch line. It has a stack of trays in it, and the lunch lady comes and puts another stack of 'clean' trays on top. When people come along and take those trays, it's the most recent deposits that go away first, and it takes longer to get down to the older ones at the bottom of the stack.

As Evan says, the first fat on is the last fat off, so you'll need to reduce everywhere in order to get down to the parts that started bothering you first.

Which is why i have a beer gut.

If that is the case, I definitely need more customers in my cafeteria

That's a good post Exige! 👍 +Rep! :)

Just like he said, the best way is to combine sports/cardio with some muscle training. You don't want to get too skinny, that's ugly. You don't want to be fat or too muscular, it's ugly as well.

As I have overweight myself, I could share you some tips, if you're interested that is 👍 I combine muscle training and sports myself, switching it each other day. For example, on Monday, I jog. On Tuesday, some weightlifting. Sports on Wednesday and so on. Basically, I do three kind of sports in the week; jogging on Monday, cycling on Wednesday and swimming on Friday. Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday are the days I do weightlifting. Sunday is a free day, be sure to have it, otherwise, you'll just exhaust yourself and your body will not have the chance to get back on strength.

Do not "over-do" it! This is very important, don't go out there and push it if it's one of your first times. Begin slowly and gradually build it up. When I started (I weighed about 95 kilos back then), I jogged for 5 minutes before I ran out of breath. I now weigh 88 kilos and I can jog 10 kilometres without stopping. I cycle about 36 kilometres on a normal training day but if I want to push it a little bit and loose those few extra puonds, I sometimes do 80 kilometres. I don't swim that much as it's really exhausting, yet it's a very good training for the muscles in your shoulders 👍 I swim around 30 minutes now, if I'm pushing it 👍 It's all about practicing and keeping your body under controll ;)

If you want to lose weight, sports is where you're interested in, don't focus on muscle training as muscles do not replace fat but will lay under or over, don't remember, the fat layers.

About dieting, not that important. Just make sure you don't take in more calories than you lose. If you do something everyday, and you don't eat hamburgers everyday, you're fine 👍 I don't really bother to count all my calories as well, I just stick with the "Don't eat too much and be sure to move your butt everyday off the couch" idea 👍

Oh and, keep yourself motivated, you don't lose pounds in days, it'll take a while but if you're really motivated, I'm pretty sure you'll get there 👍

I now weigh less than ever in the last 4 years!

Good luck!

For me the only problem is motivation, I am very much the ectomorph, so I don't have to worry about my weight, but that does mean I have no muscle whatsoever, something I decided to change last year, so I bought a set of dumbells, which can have various weights added to them to make 20kg, but I just left them in the corner of my room and forgot all about them. Now I put them on my bed so when ever I enter my room they are there to use, this way I don't forget about them it almost forces me to use them. I also bought a pull-up bar which is designed to be hung from a door frame. I put it in one of the doorways in my hall, so everytime I walk through I just have to do a few chin's, it can flat pack so you can just put the pull up bar when you want to use it, but believe me don't, I would pretty much hit my head on it if I didn't duck since I am 6 foot 2 inches. if you don't have it up in your face you won't use it.

Moral of the story; if you are going to purchase equipment to tone yourself, place it right were you are going to use, not were you will forget about it after a few days. If you like sitting on the sofa, put it next to the sofa. I now actually posses decent upper body strength, I am probably twice as strong as I used to be and no longer look like a wimp which can be the common perception of ectomorphs.

Hope it comes in handy if you decide to buy some fitness or toning equipment

Most of the problem i find is motivation

I find exercise with someone else helps me out a bit. My sister and i are trying to start a routine where we run around the block (Probably about a 1/4 mile, and after that im dead), then use the bench press and do crunches and stuff like that the next.

anyways, like i said, my suggestion is if you can't find the motivation, find someone in your family or one of your friends to go on the same journey to fitness that you are.

Or go and stand in front of the mirror, gives me motivation. Every evening, I look into the mirror, tighten all my muscles and then, I begin to think what I can improve. Suddenly, I get a picture in my head how I want my body. I don't know why, but together with this, I begin to think of girls. Well, it's maybe weird but I'm happy I do not think of guys at that moment...

But some nice tips have been given by these guys, some company always makes it more fun 👍
