So i was playing F1 2005 on ps2 and it made me wonder.

What technique do drivers use to launch their car for optimal acceleration? This is assuming that its the 2005 season and launch control has been banned. :)

I just want to know because whenever i race (on ps2), my starts are always very slow. And i'm assuming what they do in real f1 applies to the game since its suppose to be a simulation.

They might not use "launch control" anymore, or at least call it that...but they do all sorts of trick things with the clutch and engine revs to basically have a launch control, though no one dares call it that.

Renault and McLaren are the best at it....

Yeah, once the car is moving the Traction Control will make sure that they get an optimum start. The hand clutch, IIRC, has a mechanism so that the driver can easily find and hold it at the biting point until the lights go out, so as soon as that’s done it’s all down to the computers…

Heh, I thought this thread was going to be about new car launches, with balloons, drinks, paparazzi, drop-cloths, sponsors, shiny new cars, and meaningless press releases.

👍 Launch control? Nah..

zoxxy...that is a rad picture, huge, but amazing. Clark must have taken off like a bat out of hell. That or he left 400 feet of rubber on the ground....

I beleive Blake is correct. It's all in the clutch operation. When drivers get a better start than others, it's because they risked holding down the clutch farther than the normal launching distance.

Hmmm clutch control. I guess there is no clutch in formula 2005(ps2) :indiff:

and traction control for starting? i thought traction control is disabled under speeds of 100km/h to prevent simulated launch control

From the 2005 technical regulations:

8.2 Start Systems
8.2.1 Any system, the purpose and/or effect of which is to detect when a race start signal is given, is not permitted.
8.2.2 Whichever driver input device is used to initiate the propulsion of the car during the start of the race, a verifiable signal must be provided which indicates it’s instant of operation.

i have the F1 04 manual here in front of me and in this it says L1 is the clutch.

I know yours playing F1 2005 but i think this would still apply. Check the manual for a cliutch button, it should be there.

No, in F105 the gear change buttons are L1 and R1. There is no launch button, you simply put it in neutral, rev the balls off it, and shift into 1st when the lights go out. :D

John Love almost pulled off F1's biggest upset...
