What is up with the Opel Speedster Cup Race?

Hi all,

I don't know if anyone else is having this problem, but when you try to do the Opel Speedster Cup Race (ib licence), I think you will find that it is one of the hardest race series in GT4 to complete! When you start, it's a 200-point race, but here's the kicker: Even if you spend tons of money and upgrade your car to the max, it is still a 200-point race!!! I have bought two Speedsters (the turbo and the normally aspirated), and upgraded them both to the max. There is some inprovement in performance, in that you can either keep-up with the pack (sort-of), or possibly even take the lead, but if you make one --and I mean just one-- mistake, then you're done! Has anyone else tried this race and found the same thing? I imagine that this is not a glitch, and that the race is programmed to be this way, but I don't see why, when other ib-races are no where near this hard!

If it's going to be this hard, then as much as I would like an Opel Calibra Touring Car, I think I'll just buy an Astra instead! The race is too hard for me! Seriously, the hard races in Rally Hall for Umbria and Capri were easier than this! Sheesh!
 
just practace practace practace the race and on arcade mode the tracks
 
Try qualifying for the races to get the pole position. This helps a lot in the long run. I usually do that when I'm stuck in a race where I cannot win and usually, 99 % of the time, win the race due to my starting position. Give it a try.
 
I don't think you can qualify for the Speedster cup races. It is a single race type series IIRC.

Set your downforce to maximum for this one and set your brakes all the way up. Late brake the bastards, knock them off line when you pass in a corner. Use nitrous and adjust it up a bit from the default setting (there is no bonus for finishing with nitrous left in the tank). Make sure you have the gear ratios set so that you don't top out sixth on the straights.

Basically be ruthless, you'll get it.
 
That was one of the best series of races. All were very close, especially Inferion (SP?) because I didn't know the track well. Basically if you don't know the tracks cold, you don't have much chance. Practice, practice. Learn the best braking point for EVERY corner and hit them consistantly. Try different lines to see if there is a faster way. Watch the AI cars to see where they brake. Make sure you use the other cars as turning aides whenever you can. :) Don't make any mistakes, even just 4 wheels on the grass is enough to slow you enough to put you out of it. When it finally all works you will have a sense of accomplishment for a job well done. 👍
 
I was having the same problem with these races. Fully modded Speedster turbo and I still couldn't keep up, especially through the turns. Then I realised the one upgrade I didn't get... racing tires. Most races with non-racing cars are restricted to sports tires only, but not this one. I added medium racing tires and went back in. The A-spec points dropped to 149 and I blew away the field. To make it more challenging and grab the full 200 A-spec points, I dropped back to a stage 1 turbo. These were very challenging and fun with the stage 1.
 
hard?! my bspec managed em alright, ok so it was fully modded but i had no problem winning

Nitro saved me in this race. Only race where I ever used Nitro, didn't like it, but I did want that Calibra.
 
Got to admit................this is probably one of the hardest races in the game (why else do you think it gives you so many A-spec points!).
The best thing I did was be very aggressive and underbraked (I think another member posted the same thing), this gave me way better racing lines anyway..........if you're too aggressive the AI cars will do the same and bump you off line.
I also set my gear ratio closer together (I believe I used the 12 setting but spaced last gear further away to give me added speed on the straight-aways). Your last lap has to be flawless or it seems the AI will pick up on this and the next fastest speedster will take advantage.
It took me two attempts at each race to beat em' but I did and by over 6 seconds in each course (the more flawless your technique and the more space you put between yourself and second place during the race, the more it seemed that the AI "stressed" and made stupid mistakes and took wider turns or would underbrake and miss a turn completely in its attempt to catch up)!!

The Calibra you win is decent but I would much rather of won the Astra (I think it is the better racer)!
 
I started this one today with Sports Tyres, was chanceless. Then I changed to Racing Medium Tyres, and won all races quite easily. That cup ain't that difficult. :)
 
THis race is very tricky if you did other manufacturer races before. You think you will be up against stock cars, so you enter with a stock car and get mercilessly sodomized by the competition before you even enter the first turn.
 
I only had to do one race over......it ain't that bad honestly not as hard as some people were making it out to be.
 
Did any1 notice that there is also a difficult race similar to the Opel one? I raced in the Suzuki one make races where you can only use the Concept-S2 and the GSX-R/4 Concept. I race with Concept-S2, and I can never catch up to the GSX-R/4 Concept. (By the way, you can only use these two cars) I wont say its as difficult as the Opel race, but its still a very tough to win race. Any one agree?
 
Just mod the S2 a bit, makes it easy.. I just did some drivetrain upgrades and suspension stuff and I think chipped my S2 and did it.

Soeveryone knows.... the Opel SPeedster (non Turbo) is faster fully modded... and turns better -_-

totally modified non turbo opel speedster (its 100kg lighter to start and your putting turbo on so :) )

using medium race tyres won the 1st, 3rd, 4th and 5th races no prob at all,
the secound race is 4 laps and by the last lap with a good lead my tyres got shot to pieces at the back and i lost, so tried again no NOS this time just couldn't make it after leading all the way again... SO i changed to hard tyres at the back, car turned into a piece of ****, came nowhere! so changed tyres back to medium and... car was ****!!!!! :crazy:
i thought what is going on??? went to other races that i won easily and couldn't do better than 6th!!!! all other settings are as before.. ODD!!! has anyone else experienced this???
 
I just did the Opel races last night. From everything I had heard I was expecting a huge struggle. They were not that hard at all. I won all but the race at Inferion (sp?) on my first try at 200 A-spec points without tweaking the tranny or anything. The other race I beat on my second try.
 
I found it really easy, you have to play around with the gear ratios, i found that the AI had very short ratios so you normally have some troublecoming out of corners but you have higher speed on the straights. Also get the softest tires the race will allow. (even my bspec beat them out)
 
Hey guys, thanks for all the suggestions. Will try the racing tires, brake settings, transmission settings, etc. This is the toughest race I've tried so far, but hopefully I'll beat it soon. At least I know the difficulty setting wasn't a glitch. : D
 
Npoe, its a pain.

Tires are key, and try the Opel Speedster NA... somehow it can get a better PWR.

But good luck with it...

Thanks. This is definitely a tough race, though. I have a NA Speedster in addition to the Turbo, and the power is about the same, but it is way lighter than the Turbo. You know this is a tough race, though, because just for fun I decided to try a "Family Cup" race on the Seattle Circuit, just to see what cars it put my modded Speedster up against. It pitted me against a Pagani Zonda ("S," I think), Dodge Viper SRT10, and a BMW M5. I completely dusted these guys in two laps, beating the next closest guy (the BMW) by about 15 secs. So for that Speedster race to be as close as it is, it means that the competition is super-hard! : D
 
oops! i screwed up, 2nd race was a breeze, i put sport hards on by mistake :dunce:
as soon as i put race mediums, they were toast :sly:
so basically use a non turbo version , full tune up, race mediums and your sweet! but hey the DTM car you win isnt all that, the Alfa DTM racer from the italian race in the euro hall is nicer :lol:
