I've been making videos for almost a year now, and I am still using a 720p 12MP Camera to record my 1080p TV with. Christmas is on its way so I would like to get a HD Capture Card for my PS3, any suggestions on good ones?:)

My channel: www.youtube.com/37kazzmark

So do You want a capture card for a Tower PC Aka Black magic video card or do you want a USB2 box Aka Haup HDPVR

And MAX budget in $$$ while your at it... please convert it to US from AU

Im using an Haupauge 1429 capture card, but an HDPVR is probably more convenient. :)

I use the HD PVR aswell. I'm sure it has plenty more potential than it looks like in my videos but I haven't fully set up all the colour settings and such which I should really do.

also using the HDPVR, all of my videos on youtube.com/brobocops are captured with it at 720P and around 8000kbps, it's amazing how crisp and clear they look on your hard drive after capturing, youtube tends to compress the videos a lot though

Try to get something different than HD PVR everyone seems to use that
LOL :sly:
There is nothing different.
Any device that converts component to a HDD is called a HD PVR.
Even when developers capture game footage they do it buy using a powerfull PVR in the Developer kit that allows HDMI capture as the developer kit has no HDCP.

Hauppauge 1212 HD-PVR. They run about $250 USD and they are DEFINATLY worth it. Its what all the big name guys and basically everyone on youtube use. Another reason is with any other HD capture cards, you need to have basically an amazing computer.. This is bad because many people dont have a $5000 computer to keep up with the capture card.

You don't need a super hyped computer at all with other capture cards, just a free slot. The software does the recording, and then you edit it with any software you wish a £600 machine could happily run a capture card for you. The only down side to capture cards in PC's is the fact your PC needs to be next to it.... But all good for me as my PS3 runs from my PC monitor :)!

We are running a League vs league race, our guy with his capture card is has dissapeared after getting married! lol If anyone would like to capture our League VS League race and upload to youtube would be much appreciated. Let me know

Oh I see ... PVR, DVR are same thing.

For those of us who can't afford to spend on a high end capture device, what would you guys recommend? Let's say my budget is £40 because Christmas wasn't too kind to me this month.

To edit just use what ever software thats free...
W= movie maker
OSX = IMovie but its getting worse and more boring
Linux = depend what distro you use example Kdenlive.

I'll have to keep an eye out for one of those then, definately looks good enough. I'm sorted for video editing programs so that's all good. Cheers! 👍

Hi,

I use the new HD GAME CAPTURE AVERMEDIA, works very well,
The quality of the videos you seem on my youtube channel:

a greeting,
Such a shame they can't agree to pay for a MP4/M2TS license and instead require you to re-encode audio your self and repack every thing to allow PS3 direct file playback...
Was so disappointed when they launched this... Is AAC audio License realy that expensive...

If you don't mind only capturing in 480P, the Roxio Game capture works great as a budget device and allows you to play in normal HD.

I got mine for around 50-60$ from the Roxio site(there's a link out there for the discounted price). I use vhmulticam and FME to stream.

There are some issues with it though.
You have to switch the out/in because for some reason following the instructions causes the display to become very fuzzy. Even with the switch, the picture on the HDTV isn't as bright and vibrant as it would be with an HDMI connection, but I haven't really had a problem with just playing it the way it is.
I stream some casual gameplay on my twitch account if you want to take a look at video quality:

Ok everybody, I have a slight issue. I've decided it's time to get a proper capture card, partly to record some stuff for a league i'm associated with, but mostly for the purpose of recording DVDs, movies of interest on cable, interesting normal TV programs and basically anything else I feel like getting on to my laptop :)

Now, I've narrowed it down to three possibilities. These are the Avermedia, Hauppauge Colossus & the Dazzle. The first two are HD and the final SD, they cost $204, $180 and $75 respectively.

From youtube videos, I believe the Avermedia and Hauppauge seem pretty equal in quality (as they should be) with the key difference bieng the way they work. Avermedia seems to save it on a hard drive or USB while the other is what I was expecting (hooked up to PC through USB port.)

So, here I am going around in circles... Which would you recommend for me? The expensive and popular one, the cheaper and (seemingly) just as good or the standard definition and (relatively) very cheap dazzle.

EDIT: If it will help you're recommendation, I think of myself as competent with computers but not super savvy. If it really matters, I'm using a (less then year old) Acer Aspire 5742 Laptop with intel core i5-480M, 4GB DDR3 Memory and 500GB HDD.

EDIT 2: Ok, more digging. It seems that the Avermedia doesn't use HDMI, so i won't be able to hook it up to use it for my movies etc. To me that leaves only the colossus- HD, (apparently) easy to use and good quality.

EDIT 3: Looks like the Colossus doesn't hook up through USB, being a bit scared of cracking open my computer I guess this one is ruled out too :(

EDIT 4: Screw it! Looks like i'll have to go with a HD PVR for $220. Seems to be the best option for what I want....
