What Mercs?

Just been through the E3 pics and GT4 still seems light on Mercedes models. Can anyone tell me whether the new E Class Estate (my car!) is going to be in the game. Failing that the saloon would be good, especially in E55 AMG form. IMHO Mercedes are missing a trick if the don't get the Mclaren SLR or the new SLK in the game too.

You missed his point, he's saying the Mercs are lacking not asking what Mercs are in.

And what exactly does this frase mean than live4speed, I really do believe he's asking of his car will be in!

When I first seen this topic, I thought the topic was on Mercury cars. If so, I'd say that you'd better hope some of the ones from Gran Turismo 2 will be in GT4. But since this is getting into the car company I've recently got into (Mercedes-Benz), I can tell you this based on the "E3 2004 Demo cars...304 CARS BEWARE!" topic, you'll see maybe 11 or 13 pages worth of cars. I can tell you the DTM racer (maybe), a Mercedes race car from 1992, a sportscar from 1989 made with Mercedes and Sauber, and even a car that didn't make it to GT2- the Mercedes-Benz CLK-GTR from 1998. I kind of wouldn't be surprised to see the CLK-GTR from Le Mans 1999 in the game, even though its aerodynamics were horrible, flying into the air and flipping out of control. In one way, better be thankful they were closed-top cars, because if they were open-tops, the drivers could have been injured or even dead.

I'm sure someone will come along shortly to point out it is in fact the CLK-LM that will be featuring, the interim car between the CLK-GTR as it's badged in the game for some reason, and the CLR which so infamously crashed at Le Mans. They were indeed unbelievably lucky no one was injured in those accidents.

That is a small part of his post, the post starts with "Just been through the E3 pics and GT4 still seems light on Mercedes models." and finishes with "IMHO Mercedes are missing a trick if the don't get the Mclaren SLR or the new SLK in the game too." Can you see the point of his post now. That said, I didn't notice that bit the first time round when I replyed to 359.

Ok so both of us are a bit right?? let's keep it like that ok?

If I'm not mistaken, the drivers involved in the Le Mans 1999 crashes in Practice were Mark Webber and Peter Dumbreck. The aerodynamics were so bad that Mercedes decided not to join the Starting Grid for LM 1999.

But to include such a car into Gran Turismo is like this... a car that never made it to Le Mans, much less win the race, and do you feel happier knowing you can race with it. For example, let's say the Mazda RX-792P (possibly the most beautiful Japanese race car ever) was in GT4. But if you remember from 1992, the RX-792P kept having turbo fire problems. Would you still want to race a car that hasn't proven itself totally? In my case, a car is a car is a car. Unless a car is totally horrendous, I don't care if the car is in a color scheme I like, I wouldn't want to race a car with foul performance. Or do you think realistic performance would matter in choosing a car in GT4?

That wouldn't matter in GT4 because the cars can't flip over like the CLR's did in 1999, as for the 792P's problems, that would depend on if GT4 has mechanical damage and if it does how it affects a car. If they were put into GT4 I think KY would make them better suited to a game, ie the CLR not taking off over crests.

The CLR flipped 3 times. Once during the practices in May, a 2nd time during morning warmup the day of the race. Because of that, that car did not start the race but the other team cars did. The third car flipped and the remaining cars pulled into the pits and withdrew.

The CLR's aero problem was not actually caused by the hill, it was caused by air being taken off of the car by traffic. You'll notice if you've seen the video of the CLR's flip during the race that it was following a Toyota GT-One, and during the morning warmup you can see pictures of the CLR following a large group of cars including another CLR, a BMW V12 LMR, and an Oreca Viper.

I don't think real world performance should matter in terms of how the car actually performed but just the potential and speed inherent to the car, in the ideal conditions. I'd still rather see proven winners though *cough* Bentley.
