Yes, I got the idea for this thread from MotorTrend.

There are a few rules:

The car must be a new car, truck, or SUV five years old or newer and you can’t go further back in time than the 20th century. Also, tell us why you chose that car.

Here are some things already posted to get you guys started:

Kenny-D starts things off by saying he would bring the Ford Atlas concept truck to 1903 “so that I could show Henry Ford what his brand has come up to.” PR32A would show off a Jeep Compass to the Chrysler Corporation in 1992 and warn Lee Iacocca of what his company will produce. That said, what would you take back to the past?

This one's tough for me, but I think I might choose either the Mustang, Corvette, or Dodge Charger, simply to show their original designers what they would become.

I would probably take the Porsche 991 GT3 back to around 1973 so I could tell the engineers of the Carrera RS 2.7 that their creation had evolved into a more luxurious machine that has sat nav and a double clutch gearbox whilst still driving like a true sports car.

To late-1970s Germany when the original came out for the German military. I would fit in perfectly and be able to drive around causing all sorts of Cold War hysteria. Plus, they are the last of the old guard of no expenses spared German engineering.

I think it'd be fascinating just to show any automaker from the turn of the 20th century what a bog-basic modern hatchback is like today. The performance, comfort, refinement, ease of use, reliability, fuel economy and styling would be astonishing to them.

Conversely, I think you could take the same car back to the 1950s or 1960s and they'd be quite disappointed in many ways - I suspect automakers as much as anyone else in that period thought we'd all be driving flying cars by now.

I'd take the Triumph TR7 back to 1973 and tell them not to make it.

Oh, a new car? Hum. Maybe a Toyota Corolla and show them what the best selling nameplate turns out to be.

DeLorean - the stainless steel construction makes the flux dispersal... wait, what?

Oh yes, take the DMC-12 back to Belfast and tell John Z. DeLorean and Colin Chapman to not steal £10,000,000 of British taxpayers' money.

I'd take the SLS AMG back to the 50's and put it next to a 300SL. :dopey:

Basicly because I love the SLS, and the 300SL is awesome aswell.

I would take a 2013 dodge charger or dart back to the 70s when those cars were around and id jus be like this is what your company did to these cars!!!!! They ruined them!

2013 Beetle Turbo DSG to post-war Wolfsburg. Just to let them know that the original has taken over the world and holds the record of most produced car. Or did Golf take that record?

That's funny, because I'd take that post back to the time you signed up to this site and I'd just be like "This is what you did to the AUP".

Incidentally, what's wrong with the current Dodge Charger and Dart?

I wouldn't take any car back.

I'd just snitch the price tag from an average new sedan..

I'd travel back to the 50's..

And I'd say "In 50 years, you'll get to pay this for a basic car! So I'd buy that 300SL before inflation kicks in!"

At any point in time the car that I would take to the past is an S class as they tend to be more advanced than other cars. We would have had a lot of features earlier

I'd take a Bentley Speed 8 back to 1920's Le Mans and show the "Bentley Boys" how much better their Blowers are... Maybe I should take a Continental GT Speed Convertible instead?

I'd like to take a modern tractor back to the start of the 20th century and amaze farmers with how much land it can work in one day.

The new Shelby GT500, or 1000 S/C to the late '60s so people would poop themeselves.

I'd take the E92 M3 and bring it back to the early '90s.

I personally have no problem with the new chargers and darts, I actually plan on buying a dart in 2014 but my point is that they changed them to much

No they didn't. The Dart from the 60's and 70's was nothing more than an economical, compact car...just like the newest Dart. The only things that really changed is the engine size and the drivetrain configuration, but that's just because it's been modernized.

Dodge probably should have just called it the Neon the to shut up everyone harping on and on about how they ruined a "classic".

As for what car to take back to the past? I always thought it would be cool for Henry Ford to see the Focus so he could see what cheap, mass produced, transportation for the masses looks like today.
