Hello,
I have a terrible time seeing and registering the roads curves corners inclines declines etc. I'm always all over the track. even with great tuning tips, I'm nothing more than a crash dummy. quite emberassing. I'm starting to think that i need to actually kiss the tv to play it. any further and there is just too much trouble to see and too many distractions, even when i'm wearing my prescription glasses.

My favorite perspective is i guess it's called front bumper view? I like cockpit view too, but i cant see enough of the road. i think it needs to be fixed, somehow. i cant stand overhead view and the 3rd person view, they just seem too "arcade" like. i dunno.

any suggestions?

Setup:
  1. 1080p
  2. G27 or DFGT with wheelstand pro for either
  3. I guess i'll get a chair to use instead of the couch....

I used to always be a bumper cam guy, until GT5. Now, regardless of whether I am in a premium or standard, I am all cockpit view.

Hi

I'm mainly bumper view unless its a car you can see well out like McLaren F1, Honda NSX etc.

Paul

In car view only here.

I mainly go with the in-car view but some times i'll switch to roof cam. Unless i'm dragging an then i use bumber for rpm's.

There's more to racing than just finding a car and putting it on the track, you need to know the track! That's where I think you're finding the issues. Once you take some time to learn the track, you'll find you'll do much better. You'll know where elevation changes and hard corners are, before you get there.

All the different views/perspectives offer different levels of viability, it all comes down to personal preference. I find that the closer the view, the farther away from the TV you can be, on the other hand, the farther the view (3rd person), the closer you can be.

I sit about 4-5 feet from my TV, which is a pretty level distance. I use either bumper view or cockpit, cockpit only on premiums and when racing with clean drivers. When I drift, I use the hood cam, sometimes I need to see more of the track when in tandem and this view gives me a good perspective.

EDIT, I wear glasses as well.

EDIT 2, Did anyone read the OP?

Yeah i'd have to say, i take big breaks in between playing GT5 and learning the tracks would probably do me a world of good.
i LOVE the cockpit view but i just cant see much of the track. I guess i'll stick to bumper view and try to learn the tracks better.

What you need to do is learn the tracks. You can't expect your car to do all the job for you. It's not the car that should be carrying you, rather, you're the one who should be carrying the car around the track.

You need to adjust your speed from corner to corner. If you're not sure of what speed you should have when navigating a corner (or a series of corners), slow down. Apply the brakes before the corner or let go of the gas. If you think you're still going too fast, slow down a bit more when you hit the corner next time around. If you went in the corner/s a bit slow, increase your speed. Learn the track.

I guess you're right, though i have to say, sitting closer to the TV has helped a lot! I think I'm going to use this an excuse to get a racing chair :)

I personally use the hood view, I think it gives the best overview but unfortunately you miss the rear view mirror.
I also drive with the cockpit view but wouldn't recommend that when you're all over the place or not familiar with a certain track. I never use it for racing either, just for cruising.
