So I'm due for a new phone in the next couple of month and was wondering what you guys would recommend. The three phones that I have as options are the Motorola Atrix, Samsung Galaxy S2 and the LG Optimus 3D. I am kind of leaning to the motorola atrix because it will be released soon. Keep in mind I live in Canada.

Motorola Atrix 4G

The Motorola atrix has a dual core processor and 1 GB of ram. It has a really cool feature, It can be put into a specially designed laptop dock and then you can use it as a laptop. This feature is to expensive for me so I am not going to get it with that accessory.

Specs

1 GHZ Dual Core Nvidia CPU
1 GB of ram
5 mp camera
4.0 inch screen
Really high screen resolution

Release date : March

Next up Samsung Galaxys SII

Samsung Galaxy S II

This phone was just announced not much to say besides its specs are pretty good they match the Motorola.

Specs

1 ghz Dual Core exynos CPU
1 GB Ram
8 mp camera
4 inch screen

And last
LG Optimus 3D

This phone was also just announced but as you can tell in the name this phone does 3D (with out the glasses) It also takes 3D pictures.

Specs
1 ghz Dual core OMAP CPU
4 GB ram
Dual 5mp camera
4.3 inch screen

The last 2 phones will not be released for some time but the Motorola Atrix will be released in March.

Im looking for a phone that looks good, Is up to date and has nice features. I understand in technology stuff get surpassed with in 4 months So I want to last aswell.

Actually all the phones you posted are better I think. :P

But seriously that LG looks awesome. How much are those things?

No price as of yet it's going to be released in Europe near april the North America after.

It shouldn't be more than 500-600 $ OFF CONTRACT.

But the problem is I can't wait that long.

I'd wait on the LG. Apparently the Atrix is using Pentile for an LCD, which I just think is annoying.

I'd go with the Galaxy S2. It will have an excellent display and is very slim from the early hands on reviews I have seen.

So I live in Canada and this phone isn't out yet. Anyone in the U.S. that bought it please post here and tell us if you like it, how good it is etc.

EDIT : sorry for that other thread I started.

The ATRIX is running an nvidia processor so I would definitely skip that. The BS that NV has been announcing with their desktop CPUs and the ludicrous claims are enought o make me weary of anything they put out.
I'm in the same boat as the OP. Will be getting a dual core phone withing the next couple of months and am so far leaning towards the galaxy. The atrix would be a more economical purchase since I could get a discount but not sure I want to risk it.

Can you explain to me what Pentile is and why it is bad. I heard the display in the atrix is very good.

The way the pixels are setup is different and effectively results in a grain. It is the same technique used on AMOLED displays, and I can't stand it compared to eIPS or TFT technologies.

Article that discusses it a bit more.

As for nVidia and CPUs, they have been building GPUs and physics processors for ages now, and there is little reason to doubt they could put out proper system CPU.

You would think so and if that was the case, why are they advertising, I think a 50x performance increase over current tegra CPUs in the next 3 years? Have you ever heard of a CPU double it's performance in a single year? Nvidia has been doing fairly poorly with performance in the last 2 years.
How about the quad core "KAL EL"(that's what they named it) beating a t7200 core2duo in COREMARK? Then you look at the tiny text and you see the compiler they used for KAL EL is brand new with all current optimizations and the one for the t7200 is 5 years old and not even optimized for multi core processors. Only when you use new compilers for both chips do you see the NV chips falling way behind.
This isn't anything new in the industry but NV does it more than anyone and they do it worse than anyone.

After what eSzee said I am a bit hesitant to purchase a tegra2 device but the only quality dual core devices coming out are tegra2. The samsung is nice but I am not a huge fan of how samsung treats android. Not to mention all tegra2 devices will get tegrazone basically an app market geared to tegra2 devices.

The LG definitely seems interesting from what I've been reading. They really could be the potential smartphone leader this year if the display is as good as they say it's going to be, and whether they get their tweaks in Android as good as the competition's.

Has anyone found a release date for the LG and Samsung?

And anyone in Canada know of a release date for the Atrix here

Sucks how they keep pushing this old crap into western countries. Almost every phone that is announced these days is obselete before it even goes into production.

All I was trying to get at is that you need to do your research before you decide and never, under any circumstances, believe any chart, graphs, tables, ANYTHING nvidia puts out to market their product. If you care about speeds and other performance aspects, make sure you get that info from a respectable 3rd party before committing.

Yea I absolutely don't like that. Apple changes the iphone every year which is too fast and the Motorola Droid x was introduced last June that is only 6 month and there already replacing it with the atrix/bionic

Thank you for that.

Welcome to technology. Same applies to computers and could apply to gaming consoles if there was a much demand for newer stuff.

I got the green light on the atrix from an inside source. If a whole dept of Moto is willing to switch to the phone then it's good enough for me. Now if only my friend can get me one of those golden Xooms he painted for the Oscars.

I just got the Atrix and I really like it. Let me know if you want to know anything in particular.
