What should I ask for my friend?

Hello all GTP users -

Here's my question: one of my friend's going to go back to Japan/Taiwan/Hong Kong for June to visit relatives and to travel. He asked me is there anything I want in Japan, Taiwan or Hond Kong. I'd like to get some Japan-exclusive video games but I can't think of any. If anyone knows what game(s) I should request can you suggest it to me please?

Here's there general idea of what kinds of games I play:

- racing games (like GT4 of course)
- anime based games (there's a whole bunch of them)
- RPGs (like Final Fantasy)
- shooter (like True Crime or Halo)

I don't want the cost to be outrageous. But depending on the feedback and my own financial status I might end up not getting one at all.

RPGS
Don't bother, because you can't read Japanese.

Shooter
Japan is not really into the shooter genre. But FFVII: Dirge of Cerberus is good.

And get a Geisha while you're at it.
 
I was just about to say Dragon Quest but that's just been released in English. Hmmm just get Final Fantasy 12 and be happy...
 
Why get game based heavily on text when you can't even read the language? Especially when it's a Role Playing Game.

Because other Japanese games are based more on gameplay than story.
Racing games and action games for example. The story is implemented most of the time to give the player a sense of purpose. Half the time players don't even bother reading the backstory.

Whereas RPG's practically depend on the story to keep the player going. What would you do in FFIX to find Zidane's ultimate weapon? You do know that all the clues were found by piecing together fragments of sentences, then solving the riddle right? Unless you did go around randomly on your chocobo digging / diving places.

Face it, Imported RPGS from Japan don't do to well anywhere because people don't get the story, the very thing that keeps the game together. Other imported games are snapped up straight away because people can play them.

Ask him to bring you back a durian and some konyaku.

Yea, I'd give you more but I don't follow strictly Japanese RPGs.
 
Does it have to be games? I would just try to get some kind of new thing that isn't released here yet.

No, it doesn't have to be games, but I just can't think of any now that he asks me :ouch: I had so many things that I wanted there, but it flew out of my mind....
