what sort of track do you like?

Gran Turismo has always had a healthy mix of realistic tracks and tracks that would never exist in real life.

The realistic tracks employ a more conventional layout, a more defined 'proper' line, and an overall realistic track surround with corner worker stations, cleared areas, gravel run-offs, tirewalls, and run-off areas off of a several of the curves.

The fantasy tracks have more eye candy, usually placed in an area that would never see racing (times square?), have more severe elevation changes. There is usually less real-track atmosphere, and they are lined with trees, rocks, houses, cliffs, etc. They dive through canyons, sweep through long tunnels, or cut through a forest. Not too many sanctioning bodies would consider running any sort of event in DEEP FOREST, for example.

which do you enjoy more?

I would go with the second option. Most real race tracks are always surrounded by big open areas. That makes them bland and boring after a while.I like Laguna Seca in GT 3 though. Most fantasy tracks(based on real locations) look better cause the developers don't have to make it look life like, they can use their imagination wich eventually leads to a better looking track wich ads to the replayabillity. So yeah,i like fantasy tracks more(in GT only). The real life tracks in Race Driver 2 are excellent.

Anything but oval! :banghead:

what about an oval w/ an infield? that would be awesome...

say an oval about the size of the super speedway in GT3? (not the test track....) you come out of the first turn, then dive into the infield for a 1.5 mile course.... then exit right before the pit lane for the front straightaway.

lots of tracks in the US are set up like this.

I'm going to sound like a fanboy, but I don't car so here goes.
I would like to see some touge style tracks, simmilar to the ones featured in Kaido battle. Coupled with GT4's physics I can see much fun to be had with two cars point to point racing up or down those sort of tracks.

Apart from that i'd just like to see as many real international circuits they can get hold of. I'd love to blast arount spa in a completely stock Viper, or even that crazy Aussie track Bathurst :)

what sort of track is that?

Have a look at some of those track maps.
Mainly they seem to be windy mountain roads, with many hairpins. They can be raced downhill or uphill I can see them making a good addition to GT4, I suppose they could be considered almost Tarmac rally courses.

How about those tracks from Initial D by Sega Rosso:

Well how do you like it?

:dunce:

Well barring the first two, I think a few of them feature in Kaido battle as well. I think Akagi and Iroha?

Fantasy tracks are generally more interesting to look at & the developers have more creative freedom which is always good for us gamers. Still its nice to have a blast around a real-based circuit :)

Like uhhh, drive around a famous F1 circuit in a Fiat Panda or something :D

As for mountain passes etc... after playing several games like that now can't say I'm particually bothered about em appearing in GT4. Tracks like Citta d Aria & Capri are nice.

We need to have nice balance of real and fictional tracks, I remeber reading a KY interview where he said he was aiming for around 50/50 of the two, although he didn't say weather the real tracks included tracks at a real location like CItta and New York, both of which are pretty accurate road maps of the real thing. I hope to see plenty of new enviroments not used in a GT game before, maybe the new F1 circuit, and a jungleish type rally track, like say in Indonesia or something.

What about these tracks??

Nice one Rocket Punch, very innovative. 👍

Razor sharp corners...Ouch!! I just cut my fingers!!!

I like that last one. Lot's of handbreakable corners. :D

I tend to like the real-life tracks more mainly because you see them on TV. (or from the grandstands)
The 'made up' tracks are also pretty good (i.e. Complex String) as they offer more of a challenge.

As long as courses are realistic, I like almost any course. I think old-school Sega arcade games like Daytona USA, Daytona USA 2: Battle on the Edge, and Super GT/SCUD Race have been all original. The only Sega arcade game besides "Ferrari F355 Challenge" that featured a real track was Indy 500, which featured the (guess which track). Sega's courses are more imaginary. I can imagine racing through an airport in Super GT at night. It was a high speed oval with two bends in it to make it more of a modified oval than a pure oval. And to me, I consider modified ovals to be more of road courses than ovals. But the track was eye-candy and the music always kept me in the race for that track. Daytona USA 1 had their Advanced track that was more like a park land within the mountains. I don't see that style of track as a GT course. Neither is the Expert course in the game, which is basically a street course that starts on a bridge, past an airport, back on the bridge, and ends with this ugly hairpin you have to get just right to avoid crashing like a dumb a$$.

"Daytona USA 2: Battle On the Edge" had a street course I played once, but it was so challenging, that I played it only once, and I think the course ended with a downhill spiral (that I didn't reach). It would be a nice exercise in drifting, but GT style? Hell no.

Super GT/SCUD Race basically has one street course and three road race tracks. The street course has you in this coastal city where you start your race on a bridge, to an aqurium (imagine the sun beating down on your car as you zoom through the aquarium tunnel). I mentioned the airport. The airport course had you going into the airport, and to your left are planes, then you slide your car out to finish one lap. It is fun. I usually get the Gulf McLaren F1 on that track. The Medium course in the game is more of a GT circuit. The locale is kind of a South American course that features waterfalls to the left, an overpass like at Suzuka, and I think it's a magical place to race. For GT, an idea like that is a maybe at the most. The Expert course is no joke. The locale of this track is more like Italy. You start in this village to this Colluseum-like place, then into a castle (watch out for a sharp turn when entering, or you'll wipe out big, then you go outside of the castle, have this hairpin, then you go to finish a lap, but you have to pay attention to the road, or you'll miss your turn and bang into the wall hard.

So Sega tracks are more of "please pay attention to the road" tracks. They can be a good test in knowing if you know how to pay attention to the track. Well, I'm done.

It would be pretty nice if these three circuits where in Gt4.

I appreciate real tracks being in the game, but they do get boring because there isn't must sceenery as comparied to a fantasy track. I want to race in the streets, in the country roads, on hilly roads, in the desert, basically if they would bring in maps like the maps that existed in NFS Hot Pursuit 2 where some races are just point to point races rather than a circle course. Any agree?

Only for rally races.

Not only rRally. I think from A to B races are really nice too. Besides, there are Rally races on pavet roads anyways.

What's fun with A to B races is the sens of continuity, you never see 2 things that are the same. And so, you keep on going and going.

only problem with that is, its more onto 'street Racing' then 'racing'.

I personnally think the GT series's essence is about 'Racing' through all its aspects. So A to B tracks would be very nice.

Yes there are paved rally stages, but they are still rally stages. I think a to b tracks with GT cars racing on them would make GT4 lose some of it's realism, because there has never been a to b tracks used in any GT or touring car championships ever. If they did then they could use them only for a couple of dedicated road a to b cups but then that could be a waste of a track that could've been usedin several series.
