Tonight I saw the highest temp of my gaming PC so far and I was wondering if it is too hot or it is ok. It was running flawless on Black and White 2 but then I saw the temps and got a little nervous.
GPU 54C 129F
CPU 32C 98.6F
My video card.
BFG-GeForce 7800 GT OC 256MB GDDR3

those temps are fine

If it is an AMD you should start getting worried around 75-80C

I personally am more comfortable with my computer running a bit cooler. AMD is nice and cool. Intel runs too hot and inefficient for me.

I have a Dell 5160 notebook and it runs around 80-90F
coldest was 67F
hottest was 110F:crazy:

Those temps are nice and cool. I've never gotten temps that low!

My macbook Pro idles at about 63C and maxes at over 80C... :ill:

Just a question, but where do you get those CPU usage + temperature gauges that you guys use? Thanks to you if you can point me to a program! :)

The reason is because during summer when my room goes to around 30~35C my computer sometimes switches the CPU cooling fan to spin faster, making me believe that it is overheating. I've put some ice packs which did help :D

The icepacks give off moisture and condensate. If it is making direct contact with the mobo or some other vital part and it condensates on it, you could be doing more harm than good.

Does anyone know the max temps for an Athlon 64 3200, mines runs at 19 degress c which is cool but I was just wondering, also whats the max on an Nforce 4 northbridge chip?

That's not bad for a dell

At idle, G.T's Inspiron 8600 is about 50 degrees c. While playing LFS, it reaches 100+, and then promptly gives him checkered screen :scared:

Probably around 70C for the 3200+

You can find it in the BIOS or through a program such as SiSoft Sandra. There may be a program on the motherboard manufacturer's site.

Thanks Road Dogg:) 👍 .....

Temps can be checked in bios, programs like Mother Board Monitor and included stuff like Nforce Monitor but you can also use (what I use) a temp control bay with temperature sensors, they tend to be more accurate...

Thermometers actually do work too for case air temp. Not always 100% accurate though.

If you have the brains, wire up a thermostat with wires going to each certain part you want to monitor, and have a gauge or screen or a program for you to view the data in realtime (a computer program could also hold history, benchmarks, high and low points, etc.).

It's sitting on top of the case. I wipe the condensed water once in a while though.

So what, SiSoft Sandra and Mother Board Monitors are the programs you use to display the gauges on desktop?

Yup, you need some equipment. Do you have a spare 3.5 drive bay?

Umm nope. It's occupied by the 9-in-1 card reader.

Well, I thought it was just some software and done...sounds like it requires much more work than a few mouse clicks.

Yes, as far as I know, a stock motherboard can't take it's own temperature.

[EDIT] I think I lied, BIOS can collect info like that. I'm sorry, I thought I new something. :dunce:

there is many application that can help cooling your pc, too bad most of them only work for desktop pc. It really works, only when you processor not having 100% load though.

for notebook, there is a registry patch for intel speedstep.

My PC case came with an LCD panel which is supposed to give readings for hard drive temp, CPU temp and air temp but it didn't come with instructions for wiring it up so I've got a pointless blank LCD display on the front of my PC.

LOL

I've seen those - they don't seem to be too useful.

Anyone know what's the max temp for a 2.8GHz Pentium IV Processor w/o HT?

Thanks for all the replies everyone. Its nice to hear my PC is running just fine. The temperatures I listed in the first post are as hot as it ever gets. I have never seen it above that so it sounds like I am fine. :) 👍
I have been soo happy with this PC. It runs any game on the highest settings including FEAR, black and white 2, and Far cry.

What are said programs?

AMD's Cool N Quiet program lowers the processors speed when its not needed thus lowering heat.... but your chip and motherboard need to be compatable....

I forgot to mention that this is my current video card. So far I love it.
BFG-GeForce 7800 GT OC 256MB GDDR3 I will put it in the first post to avoid any confusion.
