What the eff is wrong with the Lotus Elise?!?

I've tried the 2nd Top Gear challenge a bunch of times, and that car immediately spins out if you try to steer or brake in the slightest. Feels like I'm driving on ice, and this is with all the driver aids cranked to max.

Anyone else have this problem?? If this is how the car handles in real life, I'll be sure to make a wide berth around any Elise I see.
 
Using traction control and anti spin usually works for most people.

What driving aids you using..??

ABS is off which makes braking much harder.
You can't turn it on because I'm assuming the whole point of the challenge is to see if you can drive through the Top Gear Test Track in an MR vehicle without using ABS.
 
Just don't overdrive the car and give it lots of room. Babying this car is key.

Ive recently managed to do it with no aids besides ABS=1, however for the first time i did it with ABS=1 and Skid Recovery on.

As to your reference about the car handling IRL, the car on the event is on comfort tyres, whereas an Elise in real life comes with road legal semi-slicks comparable to sports medium/soft tyres.

Just keep practising, you can pass one on the first corner with early braking and a tight line, hard acceleration after that and braking as you approach the tyres and keeping a really tight line through there will get you into 7th or 8th. Hammerhead, brake slightly later and pass 1/2, but dont be too ambitious. Draft up to the follow through, brake slightly and accelerate hard and a slight lift at the tyre wall will keep the best line with maximum speed. A nice tight line into the second from last corner will let you pass a couple, and late braking to force through at the last corner will help too.

With practise i can get into 3rd or 4th i believe after the first lap. But its still fairly easily winnable from 6th/7th, so just stick with it. Being consistent is the key here.

If you don't have a wheel that race is going to be hard the trick is to ease onto the throttle out of the corners an try to do the same while braking
 
Skid recovery is not available in this challenge...also keep in mind you're on comfort hard tires.

Worst tires in the world + Elise = Top Gear Intermediate

If you are using a wheel set it up so you can change the Brake Bias mid-race and set it to about 7-3. That way your car that won't spin as easily under braking, but will still handle terribly due to the tires.

If you are using a controller you shouldn't have any problems.
 
Dude, I SWEAR it took me almost a hundred attempts to do this! You REALLY need to be up into 5th when hitting the back straight before the long right hander. You can also brake a little later than the driving line indicates. Just be sure to not make any contact after getting to 5th. It also toatally socks in the British Lightweight's.
 
I believe I have tried this for 50+ times. The computer cars are so slow when turning but you have to avoid hitting them otherwise you get disqualified. This is so annoying! I believe watching clips on youtube helps a lot. The videos gives you hint on cornering and good takeover spots. I nailed it after a few tests. Good Luck!
 
Gave this challenge a try the first day I got the game and gave up, came back the second day and got bronze and decided I couldn't be bothered doing it again. Went back to it on Thursday just gone, which was two weeks since I first played and golded it, with a pad.

The assists save you when steering and accelerating, but you need to be careful on the brakes. The first bend is the killer, you need to do it as two braking points.

Your lap times need to be under 1:28 to gold it

Passed the 1st place car on the second lap going around Chicago (I think, big turn before the hammerhead) and then walked away to victory, using a DS3 controller with a 1.26:xxx lap time.

I actually didn't find the challenge that hard once you learn the braking/throttle technique. It may have only taken me 20 mins to complete, with a smoke break in between.
 
Well... I hate to admit. To get Gold I turned SRF ON and ABS 1.

Couldn't get better than 3rd with all off. It's winter and I was down to my t-shirt sweating. I thought it was best not to risk getting pneumonia for this...

Besides, there is so many times I can do a challenge. This one is just like TopGear. A delicate balance between interesting and stupid (in a funny way).

I'm assuming you didn't bother to check your PS3 before making this post, since the ABS is obviously adjustable in this challenge. If you are too lazy to look at the PS3, try using the search tab next time you think to answer a question :)
