So I don't see an abundance of these threads but I'm notoriously bad at the search function so sorry if this has been asked/answered...

What's up with G27 being out of stock at every major retailer? I thought it was just hard as hell to find one in a store, but come to find out they're impossible to find in stock online as well? I found one for sale on craig's list for $325. I texted the dude saying "I'm interested but they're $299 new so since yours is used will you take $250?" He was like "already sold for $325." Then he proceeded to tell me they were really rare at the moment and even used were going for high prices.

A quick search on ebay saw some of them going for absurdly high prices.

My answer? I think it's moronic if you spend more than the value of this already pricey wheel on a used setup. If logitech can't stock its products it's just going to lose me as a customer, not make me want it more. Absolute bullcrap, and I hated it when Sony pulled that stunt making PS3 slims "hard to get ahold of" so they could push their crappy refurb models. Yeah. As if PS3s are going extinct or something...

I dunno it just seems odd that a product in such high demand by such a powerhouse company is out of stock EVERYWHERE. Correct me if I'm wrong but to me that means they're intentionally not restocking stores or online retailers for one reason or another. I really don't get it. Enlighten me?

There are heaps of them in Australia. They're expensive here ($400 - $450) but the recommended retail is like $599 or something insane, so the street price isn't inflated. But you can pick them up everywhere. It's weird they've been out of stock in the US for so long.
 
My wife tried to buy me one for as a gift in December, but we couldn't find one until late February. It just took me being overly excited and keeping track of local shipments until on the off chance I managed to get into a bestbuy before anyone else and claim one. Amazon.com used to have them pretty frequently at normal retail price, and I considered having one shipped to a US address and picking it up on a short trip to the US. But I do recall even Amazon's stock going down and their prices going up near the end of my search.

My wife had originally ordered one from TigerDirect, and last we heard from them they said they would be backordered till April 6th (got that email in february), then after we we got one locally and called to cancel the order we found out that they had cancelled it for us, apparently having gotten the impression that my wife was upset with how long it was taking from a previous phone call...
 
I bought one from Amazon on February 23rd and it said it would be back ordered till April/May. But it arrived at my house on March 12th...

They're pretty much backordered everywhere, which is also the case for the DFGT. GT5's launch caused a spike in wheel demand as you may or may not know.
 
I never pay more than retail. especially used. Fanatec gear is the same way right now. If you go on ebay, everyone wants more than retail, because they are on backorder. I guess if you need it right now, you will pay for it. But i think it's worth the wait.

Agreed. Worth the wait, especially to those of us whose wallets don't go on forever :)
 
yeah I was going to point out all wheels are like this. The only time you can find a racing wheel in the store (from my experience) is when its brand new. After that, supplies appear to come up short.

The only wheel you can probably find in stores is that mad catz 360 wheel & a few rare T500RS'es.

This is what I wanted the ask the more experienced members here- is this just something you guys have always been dealing with for many yrs (extreme shortage of racing wheels)?

When I started looking for wheels awhile back I was shocked at the brutal shortage of wheels. My friend let me use his for a bit but even he wanted a lot of money for his DFP wheel lol. instead I just decided to save my money and get something else with a clutch (and just wait!)

But from what i've been reading around and seeing lately (on newegg.com) theres supposed to be a good shipment coming by April 11th, and logitech's site has been updated from just being "Out of Stock" to "Out of Stock, But if you place your order now, we'll deliver as soon as the product is available.", so that might be an indication that there might be a few batches coming in soon.

Sucks that GT5 caused mayhem for wheels, but i might just wait it out since its only 3 weeks away.

Interesting that you mention this, because I gave a local distributor a call 3 or 4 weeks ago and they too told me that the recovery date was mid April.

Perhaps it's time to place my order...? :scared:

I was almost certain Sony was doing it with PS3 refurbs and slims, though I guess it's hard to see Logitech's motivation for making their wheels scarce and losing ALL the money from used models on ebay. Hmmm...

I know! When I wanted mine for christmas, I could go to any "JB HI-FI", Eb Games, well, just about anywhere! And those few retailers that didn't have them said they were getting more stock soon! The first I heard of any G27 shortage was on the forum, needless to say it shocked me :dunce: For anyone abroad that can't get one and you're willing to pay more to get it soon, you could consider buying one from here then getting it shipped :)
 
I put up an add on a local message board here and had 2 hits for G25s. First guy flaked out on me and the 2nd guy wanted $300 for a 4 year old G25. I'll wait for a brand new G27 at that price. May even dish out the $600 for the Thrustmaster.

The thing is backordered everywhere because demand for wheels spiked when GT5 came out... The supply wasn't able to meet the demand, ergo, there are less wheels out there for a higher price than suggested retail price. Economics 101.

I honestly can't believe you think this is some sort of conspiracy by Logitech...

Well I get how shortages are caused. I also never used the word conspiracy, but I did consider the possibility that Logitech was not resupplying its retailers sufficiently for some economic reason or another. That may not be the case at all, as you've pointed out. I do maintain that Sony made PS3 slims scarce to push its crap refurb fatties that it couldn't get rid of otherwise, so both Sony and GameStop could make as much money as humanly possible on the old models, though I certainly can't see a similar rationale for Logitech.
 
I went ahead and placed an order directly from Logitech since I can't wait for the Fanatec...lol I started playing GT5 again.

Only problem with that is the Aus dollar is above parity with the US, and they are still really expensive here compared to the US. Add in shipping, and you'd probably take your chances on ebay...

compusa.com/tigerdirect.com (same place now). I saw that their website still had the listing for the wheel but it said that it was no longer being sold and that it was just up for information purposes. So I called them and they said that they do indeed have the wheel in stock, so I bought it right then and there, late night friday. It was in UPS's hands early saturday morning and arrived at my door the coming tuesday.

Although now the listing no longer has the add to cart link so I am guessing they are totally out, but its worth a try. Just call around any major electronics retailers you can think of, that's basically what I was doing, I checked the website of any electronics store I could think of and compusa ended up being the one to carry it.

It looks like officedepot has it but they are asking $365

I think shipping would be the absolute killer, when I was considering buying a Fanatec, USPS Postal prices were US$ 20 more than the wheel itself!! And also, I'm definetley not complaining about the exchange rates, I got a heap of stuff on eBay from the US and UK VERY cheap. I even got some racing stickers for the cockpit :)
