I don't really know where to post this since it's more of a weird one-time occurrence than a computer help question, but what is this?!

You dented your system tray's hood. That's expensive to repair, XP is still pretty new, so you can't find the hood in a junkyard. You'll have to go to your XP dealership for that one. ;)

I donno what that is! I'm on XP also, but I'm smart enough to use the silver metallic scheme instead of the OE blue scheme...and I've never had that happen.

The only reason I don't use that Silver Metallic option is because I can't stand that green start button, with everything else being silver.

M5Power: It probably just is a one time occurrence. Just degauss or turn your monitor off, then on again.

It basically means to demagnetize the monitor. Magnetic fields build up within the monitor, causing distortion of the image or color. CRT monitors in particular are able to pick up these magnetic fields, so the manufacturers will include an internal coil which will degauss, or demagnetize, the monitor.

{Edit}: Screw this post!

Degaussing means to zap the monitor to neutralize the static charge that builds up over time within the monitor itself. The gauss field is caused by the electron gun and aiming magnets used to 'paint' the picture on the inside of the screen. These eventually build up a static charge (which is why monitors are always dusty) that is strong enough to affect the gun aiming by itself. Degaussing sends out a big pulse of static electricity to cancel out the residual charge in the monitor.

If that picture is a screen shot, I really don't know what that is.
Ah, he has a point here... what a screen shot takes and what you see can be two totally different things (for example, if you invert the colors on your monitor, then take a screenshot, the screenshot will appear in "normal" color), so then is degaussing really the problem?

I've been using silver for months and thought it was time for a change.

Ohh, I see.

Now that I look, why is there an olive green scheme?!

Ugly as hell!!

I don't know! And I don't know how to degauss! :( :(

But, it's gone hopefully never to appear again. So we're good.

Do you have butons on your monitor? If so press the menu button and scroll down to options...degauss should be under options...at least on mine it is.:odd:
