I am finally getting my car delivered by my uncle (1965 Chrysler Valiant AP6). He is driving it the four hours from its home to my house. As it has been living with my grandfather it hasn't seen many mods. I don't know when it was last serviced either.

It runs great and I have driven it numerous times with my uncle or grandfather.

It has been in the family since new and has the following features.

1965 Chrysler Valiant AP6 Sedan

225 c.i. Inline (Slant) 6 (3 speed manual column shift)
Bendix Stromberg Carburettor (Adapted from a Holden Six)
Genie Extractors
89000 miles (140 000kms)

14x6 Cheviot Mags (5 slot pattern)

I am looking to warm it up a bit while still retaining the classic look and feel.

A friends father and I are going to respray it in the classic colour and I will get some rechroming done on certain parts.

Ideas

When the car arrives I am going to flush the brakes, flush the cooling system and replace the coolant, drain the oil and replace it with Castrol GTX-2 SAE 20W50, Adjust the brakes and have the rear drums machined and the brake cylinders repaired.

I will then look at doing the following

Converting the front end from drum to disc brakes-this is a must

Holley 350 Carby

Lowering 1.5"

Fitting an anti sway bar to the front

Fitting better shock absorbers

4 or 5 speed gearbox

Do you guys have any ideas? If so I'd love to hear them. Pictures of the work will be uploaded when the car arrives at my house and I start work (within the month)

440 V8 swap ;)

Low milage for a car of that age. Was it in storage for a long time?

Leave the slant 6 in there, assuming it's in good nick. See if you can find a four speed for it, and floor conversions can be done for them.

The six tunes up very well, and there's plenty of comparatively cheaping tuning gear for them. Have a trawl through the net.

has it got much rust?
the mods you currently have planned sound like a good start. i would change all fluids if i were you including gearbox , diff and power steer (if it has). greese up all serviceable nipples and check the tyres

A 440 V8 swap...I was thinking of doing another AP6 with one of those with a supercharger and Torqueflite 929 transmission for strip drag racing (in about 5-10 years).

Rust is limited to a small hole (about the size of an Aussie 5 cent piece or smaller in the floor pan on the drivers side), a small piece on the pillar and some under the chrome on the boot (i'm getting a new bootlid).

It has been driven regularly since 1965 (only driven on sundays until about 1975).

As for draining all the fluids, I like that idea and i am considering investing in a grease gun to do the grease nipples.

I'm going to adjust the tappets when I get it and am also considering removing the head to check out the condition of the bores (might take it out to 4.0).

Convering to unleaded (properly will cost about 750 for new valves and valve seat inserts and that isn't including low comp pistons).

I'd like to install a performance cam and have the engine ported.

The six runs really well at the moment (as you would expect for a car with only 140,000 miles on it).

if the engine runs great i wouldnt worry about striping it too much, maybe just a cam. unless your looking for some more serious power

I want 200HP (150kW). It's a big heavy car and needs a bit more power. I'm guessing it has about 160HP at the moment.

The car was released with a 140HP motor but the extractors should have given a little more oomph.
