What To Get For Your Real First Car? Need Suggestions

They're just as girly as 2nd Gen eclipses and Del sol's

Here's something a little different. How about a Subaru SVX. If you can find one, they're pretty collectible and supposedly handle well ... Flat 6 ... AWD. The known down sides are a weak tranny (but its better in the later years), and weak wheel bearings. It also has that cool ItalDesign body.

Sure get an SVX if you don't ever plan on having the window down, or else you'll look like a moron.

Honestly..depending on how tall he is I'd sudgest a S14 model 240sx, or a Infiniti G20, or somethin else like that
 
G20 is a good suggestion, Consumer calls them the most reliable car ever made.
 
So it's "suggest a lightning fast car for an inexperienced driver" time is it?

Go with the Focus. Extremely reliable, fairly fun to drive, insurance is reasonable, doesn't eat petrol and ANYTHING can accelerate off lights. He doesn't need anything more than that - I've been driving Ford Fiestas for 8 years (for our US friends, it's a "compact", apparently) on the grounds that 50mpg saves me ****loads of money. I'll be moving on to Supra TT soon - chances are if I'd done it when I passed my test I'd be dead by now.
 
Famine..HE said he wanted something reasonably fast and looked good..This is my opinion and all..But the Focus isn't exactly much of a looker
 
Bog all wrong with the way the Focus looks. Plus, if you feel like it, there's all sorts of cheap Ford extras - chrome tailpipes, aluminium grilles, hell even pointless wings.

Then you throw in 40mpg, low insurance, 0-60mph sub-10 and 130mph (for the 1.8i) with 4 seats and a good-sized boot - it's starting to look excellent.

Then you've got the Ford safety bits'n'bobs - D&P airbags, PATS system (best manufacturer's engine immobiliser there is).

I think if you're looking at a Focus for a first car, I'm bloody jealous of you :D
 
ok Aluminum Grills and chrome exhaust isn't going to change the fact that it's a glorified 2 door station wagon

im 100% with famine on this one, had i had what i wanted when i passed my test i would certainly have had an accident since passing my test and might even be dead by now. i've never maxed MY car out, and i've beaten everything i wanted to off the lights except a 993 turbo. my car is a 15 year old 1.3 astra estate. i may upgrade to a 325i sometime soon.

as for fords, i drove a fiesta on my lessons + test and i have nothing but praise for the car, felt very well put together and drove nicely. + very spacious. if i had free choice of a new first car i'd prolly get a fiesta or maybe a focus estate (since i like estates :D).

Looking for a good reliable car, thats cheap on insurance, and if he wanted to he could doup to look nice.

That's 40 imperial gallons, mind you. Think high 20's, low 30's.
