Hi to all GT gamers
I'm a BIG Gran Turismo fan (maybe fanboy also, but also open for other good race games).
To have this short as possible because this is my first post here I want a 'help' from you guys.
I considering to get one more race game before GT5 is released, and mainly I have two candidates: Dirt2 and Shift.
I know than anything come close to GT (atleast on PS, if not general; by my opinion) but want to race with one good game to pass time a little faster until 'The one what we all waiting for'.
Now, I will appreciate your thoughts about Dirt2 and Shift, or is there maybe something more that I may consider? So I wold like comments about those two games (or other one 'worthy' candidate) from gamers whose played or own(ed) any or both games. I have both Demos and must admit that Dirt2 let me impressed more and Shift also look good, but somehow I feel that I had bigger expectations (sim factor). But those what I played are demos so that maybe is not good judging point.
So, which game is better, or have more fan factor or whatever what it make worth to get?

Thanks

P.S. So far I have MotorStorm and GT5P from race games.
P.S.S. I dont know is this appropriate place for this thread but I hope that I didnt make something 'wrong'.

i think dirt sucks and I would get shift. I pre-ordered forza 3 and just bought an xbox though so that will do until gt5 arrives :)

Do you have a 360?

If so you should probably get Forza 3 when it comes out, It should tie you over until GT5

Forza 3 Tekken 6 I recently got Fifa 10 I'll be getting SVR 10 aswell and Footy Manager.

I downloaded the Shift demo and that thing is driving me crazy.

The AI is so bad, I can't even stand the game. Even on hard it will make so many mistakes that it makes the game unplayable. They screw up the corners too often. They often brake too much and you end up out of track when dodging them, or you hit them hard and spin out. Also, they often miss brake points, and since you need to use the car in front of you as your brake point if you're too close, the AI guy runs out of the track and you follow him to the sand. When they are not screwing up the corners and you manage to corner the right way, some suicidal AI driver behind you hit's you so hard you spin out of the track.

You either turn all assists on to survive the AI, or set it to easy or medium so you can drive past them before they have the chance to destroy your race.

After playing this game I have second thoughts about GT's AI sucking really.

If you have PSP: Gran Turismo PSP and/or TOCA 3;
If you have 360: Forza 3;
If you have PC: rfactor, GTR evolution...;

And about PS3:

I don't like Shift, is still more arcade than sim. Maybe the first minutes impress, because of the cockpit view effects and the great videos before the races, but when you go to detail, about driving, damage... fails.

I haven't driven Dirt 2 more than the demo, so no opinion.

Why don't you play Ferrari Challenge or SuperCar Challenge? I can assure you, they are more "simulators", than the pair you said.

gt psp and a s/h psp. cheaper and more sensible than getting another console. thats what i'm doing because dirt 2 is total pants and shift can be completed in a week, and its quite easy and boring also.

same, i think the graphics of shift are terrible. gt4 looks better. damage sucks the balls too.

I beg to differ. If you race against the AI on hard it's impossible.

its not impossible but good point its harder, but that is with everything turned off aswell isnt it trying to make it more like a sim racer rather than a kids game. it isnt a simulator at all, you can come off the brakes whilst steering fgs.

i think one of the settings is that it brakes for you or something, oh how i lolled!

It certainly wouldn't be impossible if the AI was at least decent. The only way I won was by cutting the track so I could overtake the whole field. Then I was able to race my way to the checkered flag without that horrible AI in the way.

I could go on and on with the atrocities I found in the demo alone. I don't even want to see the whole game.

P.S. So far I have MotorStorm and GT5P from race games.
Which one? If you liked MotorStorm 1 at least a bit you MUST GET MotorStorm: Pacific Rift.

If you dont mind Arcade racers i would also recommend you Burnout Paradise.

I know everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but, I can't help but think "Wtf?"

You think Gran Turismo 4 looks better than NFS Shift? :odd:

Shift and GT5P is what i'll be playing from December when i get my PS3 'til March when GT5 is (hopefully) released.

Don't question the delusional.

Anyway... besides playing old GT games, you could check out Shift, GRID, Dirt 2, Motorstorm Pacific Rift...

If you have an Xbox 360, then Forza 3 for sure.

I dont know, but i dont think it is.
The game is amazing, if you like more brutal arcade racers, its perfect for you.

It sold way too less, its fantastic.

Thanks, i might get it, im also thinking of getting a 360 and Forza, the only thing that keeps me from buying it is it's developers. I hate how they think that everything that they do is revolutionary and new, such as rollover. Dan Greenwalt and Che Chou are the biggest and most ignorant fanboys i have seen, I understand that they are trying to promote their game, but they insult gt and other racing franchise in their interviews, which i don't like. For example "the best looking racing game on a console", "with over 400 cars, (gt4 had 700)no other game gives you this amount of content" and especially this one from a Gamespot interview: "We came up and created the suggested driving line, which nfs took from us, even Gran Turismo, (slighty chuckes at the end)". Forza 3 itself looks pretty cool. I really want to get pacific rift. :)

I'm interested in PS3 (almoust only). On PC i just play GTR2 (but not much).
Dont have X360, but would like to try Forza ;)
So I see that many agree about Shift (AI).
At the moment dont play much, mainly GT5P and UFC right now so want one decent race game.
Is Dirt2 worth of buying?

And thanks for all comments, I appreciate it ;)

P.S. I will not go to far and say that graphic in GT4 is better (obvious it is not), but general 'mood/feeling' is great, even today, I must admit :)

i'm serious, the trueno around a shaded circuit and on a sdtv looks better imo. shift looks terrible, there is a lot that goes on so its a bit more believable than gt4 but look at the damage, decals and at the starts on a hdtv and you can see so many flaws.

I wonder if I'm playing the same game.

I....just haven't noticed any of this, like, at all.

In any case, you have Modern Warfare 2, Bayonetta (I'm totally getting this), Ferrari and Supercar Challenge, Mirror's Edge...

Just to name a few.

EDIT: Nevermind. Bayonetta is coming out in 2010. 👎

Initially I loved Shift, but as you play through it, all of the game's flaws come out. My biggest problem is that the physics are all wrong (can somebody explain to me why a Cayman handles worse than a Shelby GT500?). Still though, it's better than the majority of driving games out there.

DiRT 2 is much better in my opinion. The physics are excellent, and it is the best looking racing game I've ever played. My only complaint about it is the lack of true rallying. There are only a few point to point stages and no WRC cars (though there is the Rally America Impreza).

Forza is going to have everything for everyone, and collecting cars in GT PSP is incredibly addicting.

I'd wait till Forza, assuming you own a 360. If not, then buy DiRT 2.

Hm... I LOVE Shift. In terms of racing game, it's far better than GT5P (basically a large demo) and Midnight Club LA (those are the three racing games I own and have played for the PS3). It depends on what you look for in a game. They all have their good parts...

SHIFT: $60 USD. Good game overall, graphics, physics, customization, AI, are all average. Good career mode to keep you busy. I played on Normal and just beat the career after 2 weeks but have far to go before getting 100% completion. Selection of cars is pretty good. Not a high number (70 or something) but a pretty good choice of cars. Vinyl/livery editor is harder to use than MCLA but is OK... Can't make car manufacturer logos, any letters, or change the size of most vinyls. Damage could definitely be better but it works. I think the graphics are pretty good actually. Online is solid, but you frequently get the a**hole that rams you off the road. No lag. Lamborghini and Porsche included.

Midnight Club LA: $30 USD. Good story mode. Car selection could definitely be better, but good add-ons (2 free add-on packs and other paid DLC). All DLC comes with the Complete Edition coming soon... Car graphics are pretty bad for a PS3 game, however scenery graphics are superb. Physics makes the game definitely feel like an arcade game. NO load times when cruising in the enormous city. Excellent online (free cruise. Empty tiered races, however. You can race within the free cruise). Very little lag. Customization is by far the best I have ever seen on any PS3 game. Awesome livery/vinyl editor, great bodykit choices, upgrades, etc. It's hard to find a car that looks remotely the same as any other, unless you keep it all stock. You can buy others' creations online. Lamborghini and Saleen included.

Gran Turismo 5 Prologue: $30 USD. Great if you want a game with amazing graphics and physics. AI is worse than MCLA and Shift. No customization. Good amount of cars, not the greatest selection. No story/career mode, but there are a bunch of race events. Terrible online. Good game overall. Ferrari included.

These are just my takes on the racing games I have. I just threw the last two in to compare them. Mostly to give my take on SHIFT. I do not have Dirt 2, and I tried the demo but it wasn't my type of game. I didn't like it at all.

I like MCLA but after I beat it (took quite awhile) I just didn't feel like playing it (although I do like to start it up and re-create a particular car using the vinyls editor). GT5P is an awesome game but with almost no replay value. Still working on Shift.

Oooh for got about that one. Definitely try MC: LA if you are looking for a fun street racer. It's already been out for about a year so it's cheap now too.
