What WAS the April Fools 2005 fiasco?

Spending a quite a bit of time in the Rumble Strip, I am familiar with the GTP April Fools 2005 event. But what actually happened? I believe/think a couple mods were banned after the event. I'm really curious about this.

Well, the info in that thread is stuff I already know. A couple of mods were banned, but that's all that I know about.
