What was the longest you've ever left your PS3 on?

Thanks for the response guys. It's nice to see that people can run this thing for so long and not have any problems especially those that have left it on for months. It sure has taken away my consciousness for overheating problems knowing that this thing is built rock solid.

The other night I accidentally left it on the whole day because I accidentally didn't hold down the power button long enough and had thought I did. For some reason my auto shutdown didn't kick in even though it was idle in XMB screen. Is there a reason to this or does the auto shutdown function only work when you are idle during a game or movie?

A week, getting B Spec to Lvl 40 on the 24hr races. Original fatty

My fatty had to do the same. I was worried at the time:nervous:
Now I have had so much fun I would buy another without a blink and I do not treat it well and it keeps going even in hot weather:cheers:

Just read my post. No intention of double meaning. LOL

I run mine all day for about 8-10 hours. You look at this and say im glad i didnt get a 360 cause you hear of people running theirs for like 3 hours and getting the red ring of death.

1st gen slim 250GB. I left it on almost an entire day while playing with friends from school on Black Ops last year. I think I fell asleep during match.:ouch:

I've run it for well over a month straight, multiple times. Just ask anyone on my friend list.
I have both a fat 80gb and a slim that I mainly use now.

Nothing wrong with keeping them on for long amounts of time besides the power bill. It's actually worse to leave it on for periods of intense play only to turn it off as soon as you're done playing. Not allowing your hardware to cool down sufficiently is what causes small cracks in the chipset over time. So advice to those who don't like leaving their systems on: after you're done playing, or watching Netflix for a while, allow the PS3 to idle either on the home XMB screen or just the game or Netflix menu for about 15 minutes before turning it off for the day.
Interesting to read and I remember Sony stating that they made the console to be able to be powered on constantly.

A bit more than 24 hours for the B-Spec 24hrs of Nurburgring... Mine is a 160GB Slim bought in May 2011.. I usually leave it turned on for by maximum 8-9 hours, time that I play games and watch Youtube videos on it. It geta a bit too hot on the back, so I'm usually scared of leaving it too manh time turned on...

When I originally played GT5 on dad's 40gb PS3 I did the a-spec 24 hours of Le Mans. It took me 3 days just to finish it, and I was glad that I finish it so no longer have to worry about any power outages.

I've been through a few Ps3's, all enduring long use.

Ps3 Fat 40gb - 2 days when I turned it on and left it on when I went to my friend's birthday. Console died shortly after :/

Ps3 Slim 120gb - 3-4 days doing GT5 endurances.
Then got the Super Slim this Xmas which has never been on for more then 10 hours.

Left it on? I never turned it off.. It is off only if there's problem with the power distribution.

6 months

I had problems with my 80gig launch fatty. It would barely read discs anymore (now I know to take it apart and clean the laser.) So I left gran turismo loaded up and on for about 6 months. Then I realized I could get inside and clean the laser and it was fine.

It never had a problem playing the game and lasted for 2 more years after that.

The fatty is still around. Doesn't work anymore. I've brought it back from yellow/red light about 8 times and now it'll last for about 10 minutes and yellow again. Needs a reball.

Damn lead free solder! But they are robust machines if you clean them.

Now I have 3 slims running triple screens!

I've left the PS3 on for about a week straight, IIRC. My PS2 was left on for a few weeks on end at one point, but I just don't think I'd risk that on the newer stuff.

Blah it just happened again! Haha I can't keep letting this happen over and over again!

Just want to bring this to the attention of wheel users out there as well. Not sure if its true but I read somewhere on here in the wheel section that power is still transmitted to the wheel even though the PS3 is idle in XMB menu screen. Kinda worried cuz assuming this is true I have to stop being so careless and accidentally leaving my PS3 on all the time if I want to avoid overheating my wheel.
