Before you decide on what to do you might consider getting a
Playseat Challenge.
First I got the wheelstand pro that worked great (drilled holes in it for the GT3rs) in the living room with an armchair. But I also race a lot of PC sims, and there I could not use it. (Not high enough, had to use a kitchen chair w/o wheels) So I resorted to dismounting the wheel and pedals every time I didn't use it.
But now I own a Playseat Challange, it looks funky and need some adjustment to get it right.
It works wonders, and even transmit some of the FFB into the rig for greater immersion. Works great with almost any wheel combo. Playset.com have a special deal right now:
Playseat Challenge & G27
Seems pretty sweet deal. I also only race a few hour every week but being able to have a "real" race seat and wheel combo is hard to beat. The Fanatec combo is better than the G27 but the upgrade from a DFGT to a G27 is a really big step. My biggest complaint about Fanatec is the stupid mounting.
I had my GT3rs v2 for about 3 years, and I got it used. Still going strong. With only one small niggle, I have to replace the spring on the right paddle shifter and the alcantara is almost worn smooth because I didn't use gloves to begin with.
There are a couple of things that set it apart from the G27.
Belt drive, especially noticeable when using it on a sim like rF2. The G27 rattles shakes because of the unfiltered FFB signals. Even in GT5 the GT3rs is smoother and more refined, no notches. More power as well. The adjustability of the Fanatec wheels are perfect when you as me drive different types of cars and sims/games.
But that's easily fixed

. I just ordered the CSR Elite combo. CSR wheel (same base as the GT2) and the CSR Elite pedals with the shifter combo, and I have a "rig" to but them on, the Playseat Challange.
