Whats Inside?

I have just got my first wheel at the grand old age of 35 LOL. Could not afford one until now you know mortgages and taxes. Well Im happy appart from one thing. The wheel has 900 deg rotation. Which is pants. Most fast road cars have less than that. I know I drove subaru imprezas of various types for 8 years. Ive driven both Civic and Integra Type R's which friends own/ed and the list goes on. Well getting to the point I wondered if anyone knows whats inside the wheel. Im not really that bothered about ripping my brand new one to bits yet. Im thinkng of trauling e-bay for a broken wheel but thought id ask first. See Im a machine repair electrician and I was wondering if it was some kind of encoder. If it is it may be possible to modify it to a smaller turn degree but have the same number of position points. Barring that if anyone has an old broken wheel they dont want????
