In a hypothetical world where you only had the resources to have one or the other which would you choose:

Top class Wheel/Peds (Fantatec, new thrustmaster, G27 so on)
w/no rig (i.e. sitting on your sofa with wheel attached to a table and pedals on the floor

Or

Basic/Budget wheel (DFGT/DFP for example) in a good quality rig (gamepod GT2 or whatever other rigs you can think of)

Which do you think is more important in terms of immersion and experience? For the sake of argument say the first set up would be slightly less than ideal (I think we've all experienced having to use a table that was just an inch too low and cut off all the circulation to our legs...) would that be worth the pain to have a better wheel in your opinion?

Thoughts...

Rig, an uncomfortable or less than adequate setup defeats the purpose of a high end wheel. Whereas using a viable wheel with a decent rig will yield substantially better playing experience.

Good answer and I'm 100% in agreement :)

I think both are important because whats the point of buying a high end wheel and using it on coffee table etc
I think if you buying a high end wheel you need a good rig
and if you are buying a budget wheel you will probably just need a budget (coffee table, floor etc) rig.
Thats my opinion :D

I wouldn't buy a good wheel, unless I had a good setup, and I wouldn't get a good setup unless I have a good wheel. I don't ehink anyone would put down a couple hundred or more bucks on a wheel unless they had someplace to put it.
I know you said hypothetical, but come on.

I have had a good setup though(playseat) with a junk whell(M$ wheel) while I waited on my G25, and it sucked. So I guess, as long as I had a chair and a table to put it on, I would rather have a good wheel and a decent setup.

I say do something like I did here. All of the materials for the stand should cost around $30 and with a rubber mat screwed on the bottom I did not need to worry about my wheel stand moving on me.

I would just make a cheap stand and get a good wheel with the money that you saved from buying a manufactured one. It is good fun to do once in a while.

if on budget the wheel since since you can always DIY a suitable rig. but no point on spending for expensive wheel if it's to be played on your lap

A good wheel is nothing without a good setup. I speak from personal experience. My enjoyment, comfort, and performance benefited the most when I had a stable place to race, which tended to be my desk. When I got a wheel stand I was finally able to enjoy racing in the living room, on the couch.

I'd go with the rig. I don't have anything except my legs to set the DFGT on, and my legs are oh so sore. How the heck do you guys build your rigs?

I've always had good wheels and no rig. I use either my desk or a computer stand or whatever I can and it's worked out pretty well, although I do want a nice dedicated racing setup.
