My uncle back then (when he was young) owned NFS PU on the PS1 which i played with him alot of times and now i went to see my friend and he owned this game on pc. The thing is when he booted the game up, it looked really different compared to the ps1 so could anyway tell me what's the difference? and which one is better?

I heard it's the same thing with NFS high stakes.

Need for Speed games in the 90s had an amusing game of tag going for them. NFS III on the PC shared relatively little with NFS II, some music excepting. Need for Speed 3 on the PSX was an obviously built off of NFS II, reusing a lot of stuff (like music and sounds) as well as having different content from the PC version of Hot Pursuit (some of which was in NFS II). Then High Stakes came out on PSX, and was an entirely bespoke game with a new graphics engine and physics engine and assets that were higher quality than the PC equivalents. The PC version was literally an enhanced re-release of Hot Pursuit PC, including all of the tracks and a prettier version of the graphics engine along with nicer modeled cars than 3 PC had.

Then Porsche Unleashed came out. It was a completely from scratch game on the PC with a deliberate shift towards being a simulation. New physics engine. New graphics engine. All the car models were new (I think the 993 Turbo was from the PSX High Stakes). Then the PSX version came out. It was essentially High Stakes with tracks mostly like those in the PC version, somewhat worse graphics than High Stakes and a somewhat different car list. The PC version was, for a long time, one of the best racing games on the platform; and it really blew the PSX version out of the water, but it is also hard to directly compare them because they are so different in execution. Then the PC version of Hot Pursuit II was slaughtered by the PS2 version. It took until the original Underground for the two branches of the series to have parity.

In this day and age it is ridiculous that EA essentially made two different games with HP2 on PS2 vs. everything else. I cannot imagine what their rationale was. And it might have been somewhat understandable if the PlayStation version was worse than the one that you could play on PC, Xbox and GameCube but it was indisputably better. So to have this amazing multiplatform game - and one of the best racing titles ever made - you needed a specific console. What were they thinking?

I only own the ps1 version, but I have seen plenty of videos of the PC version. Graphics wise, I would prefer the PC version. But for regular gameplay, story, etc, I would prefer the ps1 version better.

Porsche Unleashed on PC is a candidate for my favorite racing game of all time. I've played through career mode way too many times to count. It has the most advanced performance-tuning system of any NFS game, except possibly Underground 2. It also has a large modding community. I once had a Koenigsegg CC8 in my garage.

I bought the PS1 version and tried to play it on my PS3, but it doesn't save my game so I'm not able to progress. I doesn't seem as fun as the PC version, based on my limited experience with it.

It is odd how EA went about the NFS series in the early years. The games were entirely different on different platforms only sharing a name, also which system the game was the best on changed from game to game. NFS HP2 is a good example of how the weakest graphical platform got the best version of that game. Now because all games are coded the same (x86) they will be identical apart from a slight graphics downgrade.

As for Porsche Unleashed I would go for the PC version purely because the graphics were miles ahead.

Honestly I was more attached to the PS1 version. *Yes I did own NFS Porsche Unleashed both for PS1 and PC, the good days when I use to game on PC* so just because of that, I'll say the PS1 version is much better.

I just tried NFS: PE on PC and apart from bandicam not working with it it really is rather fun. I never knew turn indicators worked and the customization is pretty good for a game of it's age. Graphics aren't too bad for a 15 year old game either. Also my DS4 works with it perfectly :D

Imagine how amazing a modern Porsche Unleashed could be with NFS 2015 graphics. But I don't think EA would have the guts to make a one marque game again in this day and age.

Considering how badly Test Drive Ferrari Racing Legends sold, I don't think anyone is brave enough to attempt a complete one marque game on current gen. You would have to model so many cars that can only be used in 1 game. Also, the physics will be an issue. Make it arcade and the casual crowd will be turned off by the lack of manufacturers. Make it sim and just watch how bad the Shift series is.

I didn't even care about dates anymore, I was looking for a place to say something about that weird game on PS1 called NFS Porsche Unleashed that clearly is another game entirely. I know nostalgia is a big thing, I also fall victim to it from time to time and I am totally OK with anyone prefering the PS1 version for a nostalgia fact, but how on the ****ing hell would you say its because its better? In fact is the exact same opposite, the PS1 version is WORST IN EVERY POSSIBLE WAY except the accesibility, of course that doesn't matter anymore but back then guess what? most of the people played the PS1 version because it was the cheapest, in the cheapest (weakest) system, but appart from the technical limitations of the PS1 how on earth do you justify the menus, music, even the letters, generic track names, missing cars.

For a PS the graphics weren't too bad anyway but for to call it NFS Porsche Unleashed thats way too much, heck, the problem is people trying to deceive themselves and other that this PS1 crap version is better and not that they have nostalgia for it instead...
