Hi all.

Ive just got myself GT4. Ive magaged to work myself up to getting a Nissan Skyline and now have enough money to do some serious turbo tuning. I was just wondering if anyone knew what the difference is between the Stage 4 turbo and the Original Turbo.
After having a quick look it would appear the original turbo is far better - but also cheaper than the Stage 4.....Am I missing something??

Also, does it make any difference at all if I tune my car from the standard Nismo tuning @ the japan home or if you go to one of the specialist Tuners (ie Blitz). The only difference I can see is that the specialist's offer the "Original Turbo"

Thanks.

AFAIK the Original kit gives a better spread of torque making the car much more driveable, i.e on tight circuits, it'll save you shifting down all the time to get some acceleration. Stage 4 is designed for peak HP, torque will be all up top, giving massive lag in lower rpms, this is better for top speed runs or fast open circuits. Why it is a little cheaper, i do not know :dunce:

As for the tuning companies, i have not experienced any difference, but i may be wrong :scared:

Stage Four is for all out power. Basically it's like putting in a large turbo that will boost higher and move more CFM, with a big downside. The downside is this, the turbo is so big that it takes time to boost, meaning more RPM before it start to spool up. The power also comes strong and hard at the top end of Revs. So lets say your coming out of a slow corner, and you mash it, it will take longer for the car to rev and spool the turbo up. Once it spools up you'll notice the RPMs shoot up real fast and power comes with it. Basically it's good for top speed runs.

The original kit, is the best of both worlds. You get slightly less power than the stage four but you get boost and power from lower revs. The power band is more linear. Usign the same example as above, when you come out of the same slow corner, the RPMs and boost will come alot sooner. It's like having the power on demand. Yes it's less peak power than Stage four, but you have more power under the curve. Meaning you might have less power at Redline, but you'll have more power sooner below redline.

Hope that helps. I'd use the original kit.

the original turbo is something you can only buy from the tuning villiage. it's a turbo kit developed by tuning manufacturers for high power, but without sacrificing driveability like you do when you slap a stage 4 tunbo on. yes, you make less top end power, but you make alot more power down low so the car is going to be quicker with an original turbo kit

think of it this way. stage 4 turbo kit is a manifold and a massive expensive turbo, it goes lag lag lag lag BOOST. an original turbo has a tuned length manifold, hybrid turbo developed specifically for the car so it boosts quicker, more advanced engine management modifications such as electronic boost control in each gear, an aftermarket wastegate and blow off valve to control boost better, maybe even an anti-lag system installed

which is going to be better?

i think the original turbo was added to the game for racers who still want driveability from a high powered turbo car. in gt3, i wouldn't go over stage 2 turbo if i wanted a car that was enjoyable to drive on the racetrack. now with tuning manufacturer turbo kits, they've taken it up a notch. and it sounds wicked to say "my drift car is an FD rx7 with re amemiya turbo kit" :D
