Watching the Olympics they had 2 commercials on, showing very little of a car called the G6 and displaying a website, www.first-everg6.com . It looked like Acura, possibly Infiniti.

So I went on the site, and they have a little introduction. I watched it, waiting to see who makes this thing. They show little bits of the car, looking more like an Acura or almost a Mitsubishi...then comes the shock, PONTIAC. It then takes you to the G6 website with specs and all that...it's kinda sad...200hp out of a 3.5L V6, and a GT version not any faster. They also are big on this "European designed interior" schtik.
Evidently Pontiac can't come up with anything good on thier own, so they rely on other countries and rename/reuse thier cars and shove em into the US.

Great...

I like it.

A hell of a lot better than the outgoing Grand Am...

It's Pontiac's version of the Chevrolet Malibu/ Opel/Vauxhall Vectra /Saab 9-3.

Well, they did what I never thought possible, they made an uglier ION.

It's a bit bland, isn't it? At least there's no plastic cladding.

Also, I don't understand the logic behind labeling it the "First Ever G6." It's obviously the first-ever, it's a new model line!

Well look at the damn thing, it's like stolen parts from other cars.
Mazda 6 door handles, Galant front end, and the back end looks like half of the Mazda 3i tail lights or Taurus tail lights.

Ofcourse it's an improvement over the Grand Damn but everything else is still better.

well all those GM's are gonna be parts cars in a few years anyway with their engineering.....so they might as well... :p

The G6 will later be available as a coupe with rear suicide-doors like the ION as well as a convertible.

And considering the Grand Am's 3.4L V6 only produced 170hp (175hp in Ram Air trim), 200hp is an improvement 👍

And I'm not seeing anything from the Galant here, and you're claiming the G6 steals DOOR HANDLE DESIGN? :ouch:

And the G6 was thought up by Pontiac. It just shares one of GM's universal platforms that's used in Europe. Oldsmobile would have shared the platform too for the next generation Alero.

What surprised me was how much the rear lights look like the Scion tC's... in fact, the first time I saw that commercial (and before the "G6.com" part came up), I could've sworn that it was a tC. Then I saw the "G6.com" notice, and knew right away that it was a Pontiac (they've been planning this thing for a while).

The front headlights look like the widened and enlarged the previous generation Grand AM's headlights.

The new Grand Prix GXP on 18" chrome dubs cool pimped out. 👍

I don't like the direction that Pontiac is going... At least it isn't super bland like the GTO... (nut, it wasn't Pontiac that designed it, it was Monaro...

Gah, suicide doors. Saturn came out with it first(in the current era, ofcourse years ago luxury cars had them), Mazda perfected them for the RX-8, and now this.

They are cool though, especially when you open the rear doors, close the fronts, and drive around the parking lot....
(But I've never done that because on the RX-8 the fronts lock into the back, if you close the fronts first there's nothing for them to lock into and will just swing out)

Yeah Pontiac sucks @$$ and they can never come up with anything good nowaday. (Not saying they were good before of anything.) only 200 Hp out of a 3.5L V6!!! WTF?????

Actually before Saturn had them, the S-10's came with them and I'm sure other small pickups. Hell the Tundra has the same thing and so does the Element. It's nothing new. And how the hell do you perfect a door??? Its a simple access door...not a suicide.

Now on to the G6, think of the clinet base here. They aren't going for the hot rod crowd. Not every thing is geared towards that. The car is not flamboyant, its more conservative, there is no problem with that. Remember CLIENT BASE.

As for looks, it's clearly a Pontiac. Its a more rounded Grand Am, its not hard to tell that.

They are planning a convertable model as well which should be nice. A non ultra girlie convertable at a resonable price.

Now would I drive one? Not really, not my style. But for some who's 30 and need a mid sized car, its perfect.

That's what I was thinking, just about every pickup has them, unless they are one of the really long cab ones.

Well I was talking about cars with them, and by perfecting them, in the Saturns you have to reach out to close the door, in the RX-8 the handle is right there and it's very easy to close the door.

 now that I saw it AGAIN! (Agh) I think you are right it does.

This thing was based on a well-received concept of the same name one or two years ago. As with other show cars, the G6 concept was more aggressive, and the interior was more interesting. Article here. Titanium bezels, supercharged V6, 20-inch alloys; all the makings of a show car. I don't know, you think they should just import Opels and be done with it? ;) I guess we should be cautiously optimistic. If the Grand Prix is any indication, maybe Pontiac will still be a viable brand by the time I get behind the wheel.

I think its cool.....I'd give up $$ for it. Wonder if its easy to Tune up.
One of the reasons it's weak (and easy to tune) is because, it's not DOHC, not even SOHC, but, a good, old fashioned pushrod V-6. It might not sound like much or perform per displacement but it's bulletproof and runs forever. While other comapnies strive for technology, perofrmance and sophistication GM seems to be aware of this good, old-school, in-the-long-run type of thinking ;) Plus while a SOHC or DOHC might have more hp per liter, their external size is actually bigger compared to the compact pushrod design. That's how GM manages to squeeze 6 liters (364.5 cu in.) of American Muscle behind the Corvette's front axle :)

Yes pushrods kick ass!!!! Just thought I'd throw that out there. Thats why my Blazer has such a big as motor at such small horsepower.

But the G6 would be cool with a nice exhaust, some nice rims, maybe a few other goodies. But I wounldn't be surprised if Pontiac made a GTP verison of the G6. A nice supercharger would make me want to buy it.

That isn't really something to be proud of.

Of course it is, think about it.

I will be less likely to get tickets for speeding.
I will be more cautious on accleration do to big size.

I love huge engines with terrible output. They're just feats of engineering genius.

I always say to myself, "Gee, I wish someone would release a V16 that produces 20 horsepower."

I seriously dunno but I'm guessing the 1925 Cadillac has a V-16. One of them did, somewhere within 10-20 years of that time.
V16? Hmmm.......(thinks)....... 💡 I think the Duesnberg (SP?) had v12 but not sure about V16's and I cant quite rember off the top of my head if they even existed back then or wether it was in the 30-40's.
