Back to used car lot oddities.
So I had looked at the lots one night, and decided to make my decision before racing the next day. But then I forgot and finished British GT Championship, and the lots changed.
So, I went back to my backup card, thinking I might trade the cars into my main game using memory-card trade (caveat; doing that will mean the cars won't be added to the arcade line-up).
So I looked at the lots. Sort of a sandy-coloured Fiat'65. Eh! I've already got a bluebottle-green one and there's not much to do with those funny little cars anyway... Wait for a red or metallic orange one.
Isuzu Bennet; beige; not too different from the orange one I have--the black hood's a little more striking with the beige, but it's not worth the purchase.
Mitsubishi Colt/GTO thingy. Nice orange colour. But I've got a blue one, and you can buy that car any time you want under Classics.
That left only a 1981 Toyota Celica. So I bought it on my backup game in preparation for memory-card trade.
But then I go to my main game, and realize the 1981 Toyota Celica is still there in the Historical lot; some colour (Super White) even.
But after purchasing it, I compare the mileage and realize the one I bought had 6000 more miles than the one the previous week. So either we assume they weren't the same car, or that someone managed to put 6000 miles on it in the week while I was racing.
Of course, we can deem it's not the same car since I could have purchased both instances legitimately in one game. Which suggests it might be more interesting if the "sold out" could carry forward from week-to-week in some cases. "sold-out", and taking a day to purchase a car, are generally good gameplay ideas. In previous versions of
GT you could simply repeatedly buy an arbitrary number of copies of the same used car, which seemed a little unrealisitic. (I used to, however, find that a convenient way to count the number of free garage slots in
GT1, and thereby infer the number of cars I had in my garage).
