Is this a glitch or what?!? When I do the FR Cup in Beginner League in my Red Trueno, (Had to say the details...) This stupid 240SX Type X Shows up, and whoops my butt all over the place. THIS IS NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE!!! Grr... Has this happened to anybody else? It's really chessin' me off.:irked: I'll be even MADDER if I'm the only one....

It's tuned. Turbo Stage 1, racing Muffler, and a sport suspension kit. Yeah, I'll turn it more. BTW, I have medium driving skills, but I'll get better. Hey, I got to win the K Cup to get the Mini before I can race Super Speedway.

Hey Hyper, I'm in EXACTLY the same predicament.

I've done all three races in the FR league about 3 or 4 times, in my trusty Trueno and I come second every time.

I usually manage to get in the lead but then panic, overcook it on some corner and lose it again!

Like you, I've tuned it, I think almost exactly the same, plus a lighter body kit, its up to 199 BHP.

My plan at the moment is to do a few more races so i've got 12,500 credits and buy a stage 2 turbo which will take it to 260 BHP which means i should be able to whoop the other cars easy on the straights.

Of course, it may make the car totally unamanageable, I don't know!

I won the Trueno by winning golds in the 1st cup (Sunday Cup is it?) and I also won an MX5 by winning the next one, (clubman cup i think).

I'm hoping I'll win a decent car by winning the FR cup, and I'll go on to bigger and better things.

It just Sooooooooooooooo embarssing drving around in a Treuno!

BTW I find it advantageous to stiffen the dampers on the Treuno to 6 or 7 - better round corners.

In my current game save I have been playing around in just the Beginner League trying to figure out which car I prefer for starter car. The Trueno has been one of those cars I've spent a lot of time with. Having done so, here are some of my thoughts that might be helpful:

Upgrading the Trueno:

Because the Trueno gearing is so high, running the automatic transmission with stock transmission is a hindrance. This car/series is the perfect venue to teach yourself manual transmission (specially since you're racing it and loosing anyway... one more time won't hurt  Just joking). I would highly recommend it. The Trueno is like a different car with manual transmission... really. You have waaaayyyy more control.

I would also recommend that you purchase the full racing tranny to help you along before purchasing the stage 2. Especially if you are staying with automatic.

I have found that for me, softer is better on the suspension of the Trueno. It breaks loose too easily when it is stiff. In this series, at the HP you are talking about, I actually found better performance with the stock suspension and I didn't run any tire upgrades.

Driving the Trueno:

At all costs, brake in a straight line with the Trueno. Practicing careful throttle management/feathering through the corners is critical. This is where the manual tranny shines guys. Keeping the car in a gear that keeps you at the top end of the RPM scale and feathering the throttle through the corners to keep the tail in check with no sudden moves is where it is at. Do this and the Trueno will cruise through the corners with momentum to build acceleration from out the other side. Don't do this and the Trueno will loose sooooo much momentum it is a month of Sunday's getting it back up to speed.

I know this is generic but is especially true with cars like the Trueno. You need to manage your race much more. Track placement and line are crucial because the Trueno sucks so bad at acceleration and so easily looses momentum. Clean apexing and never letting the AI be inside you are absolutes. You so much as get bumped out or swing the tail and you will scrub 20 mph off your speed in miliseconds. You are better off slowing in controlled fashion and letting the AI go by than to push the line and have them bump you in the Trueno.

In short, if you drive the Trueno nearly in the exact same way on a dry track as you have to drive it in the wet license test and you will win this race series easily. It is all about momentum management.

Cheers Phattboy!

You've hit the nail on the head there with regards to losing momentum and terrible acceleration with the Trueno.

Actually, following my last post I actually went on and won two of the races without the Stage 2 turbo - so my driving is getting better! However i did buy the stage 2 turbo and then went on to win easily at Apricot Hill. the reason I couldn;t win there was because of poor acceleration - losing speed in the corners and watching the other cars accelerate away! The Turbo got rid of that problem.

I haven't tried manual, i've been driving auto - I guess I'm a bit of a wimp! I'll try it though and see how I get on.

I found it better stiffer, but I'm not that good at setting up cars really - I may struggle as I get further up in the leagues!

You mentione that track placement and line are crucial, and you're right there! One of thethings I love about this game is that you have to actually drive the right lines - otherwise you've no chance.

I've gone on to win the 80's sports car cup with the Treuno with no further upgrades and now got the RX7.

That was fairly easy in some respects - for example, Tokyo has ghood straights which allowed the Treuno to build up to speed. It wasn't much good thru huigh speed corners but I will have to spften the suspension and see how i get on, like you say.

Cheers for the advice, its useful. I think this games is fantastic, but it is so big, nd with so many cars, set up options etc that i found it slightly daunting at first, but I'm getting into the swing of it now more.

No such thing as "whimp" there bud... I drove this game a couple times through before switching over. Do what is fun for you! I just know now that if you are winning with the Trueno in auto, you would be killing it with manual :D

I found it better stiffer, but I'm not that good at setting up cars really - I may struggle as I get further up in the leagues!

The other cool thing about this game is you can taylor it to fit your driving style so well. If stiffer works better for you, then stiffer it should be. :D (Can't believe I just said that  )

i played gt3 for about a year and never tried manual for the simple fact that doing it with the ds2 really annoyed me, but once i got my wheel...which is the mad catz with the stick shift i started using manual and i love it 👍

This is my advice: Start with a MX-5, Miata, whatever you want to call it, win the Sunday Cup Speedway race 40 times and buy yourself a RX-7 RZ. That's what I did, and with a couple small mods, the whole beginner league is done! (Or at least, all the races with which you can race the RX-7 in.) Voila.

Tried Manual with the Trueno, after a few laps got the hang of it! It is loads better, in the corners, no doubt.

I won an RX7 (I can't remembr what cup it was in now) so I've moved on slightly from the Trueno.

I've also been trying softer settings and probably find it better ion some of the corners in the RX7, not so much in the Treuno.

Win the Sunday Cup Speedway Race 40 times! You must be joking!!!!

I know there other threads on how to start etc, but I just keep following my nose, win a car, spend a bit on it, win another car, and so on. Its working so far!

Did not notice anyone mention tyres (apologies if they have), but you can mod a car all you like without good rubber it will not help.

First upgrade I ever make to a car is the tyres, always remember they are to only point of contact between the car and the track!

Also check the TCS and ASM settings, I personally set the TCS to 1 and ASM to 0. Leaving a little Traction Control (TCS) helps with wheel spin out of the corners and I personally find that any Stabilty Management (ASM) kills power in the corners and causes understeer. It may take a while to get used to the change in the way the car feels, but you will be a lot more in control, not the electronics.

Hope this helps

Exactly, ASM means Advanced Steering Mangler, the lower it is the better you perform, and the license teats say cars depend on it! HAHASHAHAHSAHASDHGADGAHAHA!!!!!11!!!!111!1!!!1 But seriously, set your TCS to about three if you find yourself spinning out a lot, use it as a helper until you learn to controll the throttle out of the turns.

I've just some tyres for the RX7 - didn't seem to make huge difference although I only bought sports tyres. I'll have to look into tyres more though.

I'll have to look at the TCS and ASM. I've got the TCS on 5 I think, not sure about the ASM - I'll have to try it and see how I get on!!

Cheers for the advice!

The sprts tyres will not make a big difference, you need to so for racing ones, they are damn expensive and with good reason.

The Super Soft will give you quite frankly unrealistic levels of grip, personally I would go for a medium or hard. Grip is better than sports or normal and you can get used to the tyres you will need on the longer races when pit stops become an issue.

Anyway good luck and have fun. 👍
