Whats with the elitist, snide attitude in this forum?

Couldn't have put it better myself 👍

Just dont get involved. You can tell 49% of the threads on here have been written by kids just by the titles. Another 49% is people moaning about the game. Or people moaning about the people moaning.
That leaves 2% for the photomode forums & tuning section.

So to sum up 2% is cool & 98% is just pointless ****e imo written by kids or elitist self righteous idiots & is not worth reading at all.

Flame away because i shant even be looking at the responses to what i've just said 👍

Hooray for the 2%! :sly:

This thread would have made for a good discussion in our Feedback or even the Rumble Strip, but not our GT5 section or its related sub-forums, so I've taken the liberty of moving it accordingly.

All off-topic posts were removed: You are what you post.

This is also part of the problem, the OP assumes that the GT5 sub-forum is the only active part of gtplanet. I've only been a member since right before GT5 came out but I've learned very quickly that the majority of the gtplanet "community" (the "gems" mentioned early) lie outside that particular sub-forum.

Wait... we actually have a GT5 sub-forum? Where?

Seriously... the attitudes and opinions of members of GTPlanet don't reflect the attitudes of the site itself or its administrators.

But our rules are structured so as to allow free debate. As long as people debate the point and not the person, we allow pretty long (and long-winded) debates to run on here.

Now if only people wouldn't continue the exact same debates in umpteen-thousand threads, this place would be a fair bit tidier.

That's the day pigs fly, niky. :D

ESTORIL, your A,B,C...etc. points make no sense. I was yelled at for bleeping the s-word out once. I haven't been yelled at for a mis-spelled word. I've been banned for inciting flame-wars (although I can fight said accusations), but I've never gotten in trouble for a sentence out of grammar.

Okay, maybe once, but I was messing around 4nd iT w4z 5peel3d lik dis!

What cracks me up is that as long as the thread title isn't ambiguous it's easy to avoid threads. I agree with the OP, there's a really NASTY element in the GTP forums that thinks that GT5 is a perfect game and should not be citicised in any way shape or form, it's a small element but unfortunately VERY vocal. If they had any brains they'd stay away from the criticism threads and the worst ones not worth discussing would fall off the main page and die.

What gets me is, the mod's are all to quick to jump on folk about petty things like your spelling is bad... there is a ' in it's.... then get all high n mighty and start giving warnings like.. THIS IS THE START OF YOU BEING REMOVED FROM THIS FORUM IF IT CONTINUES........ like WTH !!!

Actually, you got a warning for referring to another member as an "inbred" and not for any spelling or grammar issues. If you want to pretend something else happened, I shall refer you back to the AUP:

AUP
You will not knowingly post any material that is false, misleading, or inaccurate.

Mods could do with brushing up on the whats worthy of an infraction

Concentrate on your own conduct and worry not about the conduct of others. The staff's conduct is permanently under review by the site owner and we carry out actions as he would. If you believe that the site owner needs to have a refresher course on what is acceptable on his own site, there is no helping you.

You agreed to the rules before you picked a username. If you thought they were wrong, you shouldn't have agreed to them. If you didn't read them at all, but just clicked the box to say you had:

AUP
You will not knowingly post any material that is false, misleading, or inaccurate.

In this context, whining about our conduct would seem rather facile.

I'll say four litle things about the supposed elitist, snide (I keep learning new English words every other day, that's nice ;) )attitude in "this forum" (I'm referring to the OP and the OP alone) :

1 - If "this forum" is the GT5 forum, you are - sadly - correct. I see it all the time also.

2 - You may notice that usually such an attitude doesn't come from long time users. It's mostly a good portion of the newcomers that probably like to think of themselves as the know-it-all "new kids on the block" and act many times as simply bullies to one another. Not being a mod, I find it even funny sometimes ... to read. ;)

3 - gtplanet, however, isn't just the GT5 forum so don't confuse the forest with a couple of trees (I think that's how English people say this, we portuguese have a "Don't take the cloud for Juno" phrase about it)

4 - All things considered, however, don't underestimate or be yourself snide (I learn them, I dare to (mis)use them :D ) towards the effort the owner of this site, and the staff helping him run it, makes regarding the use of proper English. It is often a policy that raises a lot of complaints and not-needed discussions, so it isn't easy to uphold it at all times, especially at times like this, when incoming new members are so many every day. But it is essencial in several ways. First, makes this forum understandable for those (like me) that only know the English they learned in school, where you don't learn textspeak. Second , in a less evident way, helps people to think before they write, something not always happening in "ze internetzz" ;)

I was pretty sure there was a 'Quote button' reefer-train going on in this thread which had reached 5 people within an hour yesterday... felt nice knowing my fellow GTP'ers were out there in other countries doing exactly the same thing as myself :D Excellent.

Where did those posts go? Was I dreaming?

Ah, not allowed, I see. Shame, but never mind, it's important to keep the forum and its threads in order. It was brilliant to see just how many people were at it though, Jah Rule! 👍

The majority of people who call you homophobic slurs for wanting something added to GT5 are pretty much in the minority here. They're the loud-mouthers who like to raise their voice whenever they see something they don't agree with (I think a career in the Tea Party beckons for them...). The rest of us, who are happy with this game, we're just the silent majority and we rarely stick our noses into flamewars.

I originally signed up to this site, which is the biggest resource on GT, because I wanted to tie up some loose ends from GT4 and get some latest news on GT5.

And I have to say both the purchase of a wheel and the info found here fundamentally changed the way I played, and enjoyed, GT4. All in all that was a process over 2 to 3 years and despite some quirks I really came to appreciate the philosophy behind the GT series.

The first strange moments were when Shift got some serious bashing and I wondered why people were so concerned about the physics. But speculation and moaning and bitching about the upcoming release of GT5 made that issue up.

If you would dig in my early posts I was rather critical when I learned about the lack of cockpits for all cars, and I was concerned about how much grinding would be needed to advance in the game.

What shut me up was my experience at the GamesCom in Cologne, because the driving experience was that good. I still hold the opinion that, even with a crappy DS3, GT5 replicates the look and feel second to none.

To close the circle, GTP in many sub-forums seems to have become and endless circle of bitching and whining and it doesn't really die after all those months.

Which is a total mystery to me because I still think the driving is absolutely spot on and the best you can find on any console at the moment.

So why the hell people buy a car game and then are unhappy because they have to actually drive cars? That is simply beyond me.

It's such a shame that I can hardly visit any thread without stumbling across some ingenious idea "how to fix the broken game".

Where's the place for someone who's just happy with the game for the very large part? If you say that you are happy, yes I would like some minor things changed but that's just me, it's a big drama all over again because you're just a fanboi or something or other.

It's so god damn tedious reading thread after thread and post after post and the bottom line is people saying "make GT more Forza" "make GT more NFS:U" "make GT more iRacing" etc. Really, what's the point? For crying out loud games aren't that expensive one couldn't afford *gasp* a second one?

To end this rant: It took me 3 years to get the hang of the GT series, and yet so many people voice their opinion and criticism and requests after 3 weeks or 3 months.

Have they even tried to come to terms with the game? No, I don't think so.

I'm very sorry if people who are genuinely trying to give something back receive the heat and bad treatment. But I'm just sooo tired and annoyed. And I genuinely don't know where to turn to other than GTP because, well, it has some rather spiffing sub-forums after all where a lot of decent and friendly folks can be found.

You are who the OP is talking about. You don't understand how/why people feel differently than you about this game and if they do feel differently than you then they are obviously doing something wrong or "not coming to terms with it".

So many people here see a thread title that they know doesn't appeal to their way of thinking or is something they completely do not care about but choose to open the thread and contribute nothing of any substance at all. Their only purpose in the thread is to name call, defend PD against criticism that they don't really even care about, and just poke at people that have a different opinion.

Sure we get a bunch of dumb question threads like "Why can't I just paint my valve stems?" but if they got ignored they would fall to page 3 in very little time. Instead the douchnozzles chime in to call the thread's author an idiot......they might as well just have said BUMP.

Yeah but there is a strong correlation between poor quality of posting with general disregard for the AUP and the amount of whining they spurt out.

You can have moaning threads, but it's annoying to have a new one every day with a poorly written rant. That's when people are likely to tell you to STFU.

Don't take it to heart, some people have been here a lot longer and have in depth knowledge of the game, which is why I would imagine it can be frustrating for them to find themselves repeating themselves for the benefit of new users.

I'm certainly not the kind of guy who goes to a ManU pub and tells the locals just how rubbish their team is and what needs to be done to improve this total failure of a football team. Try this in RL and you'd probably get the crap beaten out of you. But hey, this is the internet! Horay! No danger of sudden loss of teeth here!

I both don't understand and care why people don't enjoy this game. I do. That's why I came to a "fan site".

Because I mainly want to talk about the things that make this game enjoyable: like spending two hours on Clubman SS5 of the Seasonal 80s de-tuning my MR2 to see with how little upgrades I can still make it.

But in order to share this I had to go through the same rubbish posts over and over again: Seasonals too little, too late, should have been part of A-Spec and so on. So why bother? It's been the same for weeks for crying out loud.

But I do feel the "right" to point out that on a fan site I do expect the members to have a positive attitude towards the main subject and that sooner or later some people do get annoyed when this site gets turned into a place to bitch and moan and whine.

So, sorry I'm really a nice and polite guy and all, but please stop telling me why you don't like something I happen to like. That's not why I came here in the first place.

Its so off-putting. I recently started a thread about wheel customization and 80% of the responses are snide, douchey comments. 2000 comments about the thread being pointless. Even though I noted several times that my gripes were very minor. Apparently because I enjoy visual customization, i'm not a "true" GT fan. WTF is that all about. Who decides the criteria for ranking video game fandom? Do I have to fill out an application to be accepted into the GT5 hierarchy? And I know i'll get a few comments from people who think they're hillarious and ironic i.e: this thread is pointless, find a new forum etc. This is the best GT forum I have found. People are worried more about proper grammar then people being made fun of, and turned-off from the forum because of their playing style, english skills, game skills etc. I mean its a video GAME, who cares how people play it. What gives people the impression that they are better than others based on a video game? A forum is meant to welcome all fans of whatever the forum is about, not alienate them. Why can't people accept differences. The moderators should be keeping a closer eye on this.
Love the attitude that says "2000 people are wrong and I am right."

See, you initiated bad attitude by creating threads that demonstrates your attitude as selfish and self centered. You don't give a **** about redundant threads polluting the board so why wouldn't people give you bad attitude in return?
You don't even comment in your own 🤬 threads.

15 threads created and only 17 total posts. You are the epitome of what's wrong in these forums.

Moderators: I've seen plenty of other boards that will not allow people to create threads without having a certain number of posts first. Not a perfect solution but one that will yield results and will force at least some people to learn to use the search function.

Jordan enforced that in the time preceding GT5's release. No member with less than 100 posts could make a thread in the GT5 section. So that meant a whole extra lot of threads regarding GT5 were made in other areas like the Rumble Strip, GT4 and even the Site Feedback. All the threads were really pointless too. I guess that's saying something

Where did those posts go? Was I dreaming?

You're not dreaming, I deleted them. Way off-topic, yet I kept this thread so the Original Poster could have his say, along with the couple of other members who were on-topic.

...so take the hint.

Good to know, thanks. Why did they not extend the limit to the whole board? Or make a newb section and let them create there?

*LAUGHS!!*

Too right, mate; too right!

To the OP:

I wouldn't worry much about it. I've been active on a few gaming sites in my time, and given the level of vitriol I've seen here, it's positively *tame* compared to some of the gaming cesspools I've waded through.

On any gaming site, you're going to have those posters that have naught but negative feedback to anything you might post up. Don't even worry about those posters, mate. Just go right on with your day, and respond to those folks that *actually* offer constructive dialogue. :)

Everyone here cares about the game and is a fan. Just not everyone is a fanboy.

At least they are complaining about a part of the game, you are complaining about words on the interweb. Try using the search function and ignoring threads you have no interest in.

It's the internet. Given the opportunity to be rude without consequence many people will take advantage. Being a game forum I expect many members are younger, which may add to that. Mostly though, it's the internet.

edit: Your last thread about wheels probably got bashed on because there are daily threads about minor complaints and people have gotten tired of it. Sort of the "straw that broke the camel's back" type situation, except the camel's back broke back in December. I don't think you deserved the bashing, but hopefully that helps you understand the circumstances.

Great reply :)
