I'm going to have to go with number 6.

That's the one where kirk has to battle the klingon that has the ship that can fire while cloaked.

I don't know exactly why I like that one best. I think because it's fairly recent and because I like the concept.

What's your favorite star trek movie and why?

I have a favorite for the Original series movies and the Next-Gen series movies.

Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. I thought the "Red October" style battle between the Reliant and Enterprise was the highlight of the movie. Khan makes a really good bad guy.

Star Trek VIII: First Contact. I went to see it just to see the new Enterprise-E in action, that's all. But, it actually turned out to be a very good movie. Travel back into time to fight the Borg and save Man's first Warp ship. What's better than that?!

Yeah, Wrath of Khan is probably the best of them - and considering how tight a budget it was on, a pretty fair accomplishment.

My other favourite is The Undiscovered Country (VI) - that opening sequence with the moon exploding was amazing to listen to. Nearly wet myself in the cinema, everything silent and still and then WHAM!

First Contact is definitely the pick of the Next Gen films, the others have been pretty ordinary. Generations was awful, although Malcolm McDowell was genuinely creepy in that - his 'time is the fire in which we burn' line still puts the hair up on the back of my neck. Shame about the absurd fistfight with Kirk at the end.

My favorite is Star Trek IV The Voyage Home

The one were Kirk and his crew travel back in time to 1986

Yea II was pretty good. I still put it behind VI, but it was definitely better than any others.

On that note I'll have to nominate V as the worst.

V - that was the one where they met 'God', right?

That was singularly awful. Bit of a laugh seeing David Warner play the UFP ambassador in V, and then the Klingon Chancellor in VI - maybe it was as an apology from the studio for V.

First Contact, beating out Wrath of Khan.

Why? Khan was all about Kirk's struggle with the title villian, with some Spock thrown in at the end. Its a superb movie.. but it has a single story line and really only showcases two characters... Kirk and Khan.

First Contact has three compelling threads, all woven together in a masterful fashion. Picard's struggle with the borg and his past takes center stage, but there is also Data's ..um, 'relationship' with the Queen, and Cockhran's reluctance to accept this destiny as the savior of humanity.

Star Trek has always been about the crew of the Enterprise, not just the captain. And while Khan was a great film about Kirk, First Contact was a great film about the Next Gen crew.

It's a toss up for me between First contact and Wrath of Kahn. Both are based on Melville's Moby Dick (First contact totally acknowledges it too.) and both do it admirably.
I really think that TNG crew is a group of much better actors and more developed characters (thanks to the series.) but WoK just has a great deal of Charm.

"KAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHNNN!!!!!!"
