Not bad for a car that was never known for performance (when stock). Then again, this rating system puts me in between a Mustang GT and Evo RS so I'd say it's a BIT optimistic.

Your Beetle's 1979 dollar isn't the same as the Mustang's 2007 dollar. Taking inflation into account, your Beetle gets 1093.

Minor details.... I'll just decide on going based purely on the window sticker and argue that since it's been in my garage since Feb of 1980, it deserves more than 1093.

Adjusting for inflation from the 2003 price of $22845 to a 2006 price of $24864.87 my new SPD rating would be 2059.

Hmm. I didn't notice that. A 205hp, 612kg Ariel Atom? Boy you guys get stiffed. The entry level Atom 2 is 220hp, weighing in at 456kg (1005lb) - the 245 is the same weight and the supercharged 300 a little heavier. I guess the GM block Brammo use for the US is a bit of a heifer.

To be perfectly honest, I'm not even sure the Atom is legal for road use here. So we don't just get stiffed with a 20% less powerful Atom - we get stiffed period!

So you spent $10k on your car, I guess. How about the NEW price though?

I'd say it doesn't matter, as I didn't pay that price. I think that's fair, as far as the formula in this thread is concerned. Obviously, however, your point is well taken.

Yup the Atom is legal for road use here, at least in Michigan. I was with a body of mine the other day near Flint and we saw one pulled over. It had plates on it. Assuming the guy didn't just put them on from another car, they are legal.
