Just a little curious. I've seen some great drifting here at GTP, and I was curious as to what tire formulas some of the bigger names here use? People such as IDM and Bryan C.

I'm experimenting with sports up front and sims in the rear...but I'm looking to learn from the masters, so to speak. ^_^;

I've got the settings, I've got the technique. Now I'm just looking for the right set of rubber.

Currently I run:

S13 - 307hp: Sims all around
Supra SZ-R - 300hp: Sims all around
Supra RZ - 360hp: Sports front, Sims rear
Evo VII RS - 347hp: Sims all around
FD3 RS - 360hp: Sports front, Sims rear
AE86 SS ver. - stock (forget the hp): Sims all around

Thanks for asking. This is a pretty good question.

I will say this. Don't mix tires no matter what car/wieght/HP combo you have. It's been said over and over that mixing tires unbalances your car and gives you an unbalanced traction coeficient. For a detailed description of what I'm talking about Click Here

For the most part your tire choices are fine. Although your S13 doesn't need 307hp to drift well. Mine drift great with just about 240hp. Neither does the FC. If anything might need more HP it would be your Evo.

That's about all I have to say on that without knowing the settings of your cars.

I believe all IDM members do not mix tires. Also, most of us use all Sims and low horsepower, or Slicks and high power. Your gonna get a lot of people telling you not to mix tires, but it all relative to the type of drifter you are.

If your serious about drifting, and want to get a good feel for balance and increae your skill more, I'd suggest keeping all the same type of tires.. not just because im a purist:P but also because mix tired will make it more difficult for you to find balance, and move to other tire types

If your just messin around I suggest do whatever makes u happy :P

Ahh. Thanks for the input. I'll dumb them down next time I make a test run. ^^

The only settings I can remember off the top of my head are NoNos4Me's Evo7 GSR settings...I can't seem to find them suddenly.

I used them for my Evo RS. The only difference is that I can change my rear LSD settings.

And thanks, Lifewater. I am rather serious about it. I've been drifting in games for about 5 years now, though I've only recently though to do so in GT3 recently. I felt I wasn't really prepared for such an in-depth game. But after seeing the IDM drift mag and Shadow Drifter's farewell video, I am well beyond sure of myself that I am indeed ready to face the challenge. I'm not doinf half bad, either. My only real problem is getting my Evo to hold it's line w/o straightening out.

EDIT: Here are my Evo7 RS settings. Text in red is what I changed to fit my RS.

So true. Never mix tires.

Ok, I'm not a master of AWD by any strech of the imagination. However, I know you need to change a few things immediately if you want to have better drifts.

Take of the TCS! It robs your engine of power when the wheels are spinning. This will always hinder your drifting abilities.

With your your VCD at 10% you might as well be driving a FR. Set it to about 30%. This will enable you to drift without countersteer and recover from extreme angle drifts.

Set your shocks at 7 all around and your stabilizers to 1,1. This will give your car more room for weight transfer.

For better control mid-drift. Take your camber up to around 4/2.

Ok, that's all I have to say. I'm sure some better AWD drive people like FI and SD can give you better advise with more precise explainations.

Thank you very much! I was stuck on TCS 1 for the simple sake of countering burnouts when I lost too much traction. ^^;

Learn and adapt! Thanks again! This community is so helpful. ^_^

<350 HP: Sims
350 - 450 HP: Normals
450 - 500 HP: Sports
500 HP+: Super Slicks

personally, i don't really care if other people mix tires, as long as they do what they keep doing, and it looks nice.

the only reason i didn't is because i thought it controlled rather funny and i couldn't predict the car behavior as easily...

And that my friend, is the exact reason not to mix tires! 💡

Very good advice has been given thus far...

I don't think anything else needs to be said...

TenTen-san... If you want some help with your settings, tire choice, technique, etc... Don't hesitate to send me a PM... I am here to help...

You can visit us at the IDM Foums... There are some talented drifters who hang out at our humble forum... Also, I have put together some drifting excersises (see above link) which I will continue to expand upon, so that might be of interest to you... Anyone is welcome to come by and join in...

We hope to see ya...

;)

Thank you all so much, you've been so very helpful, with nothing but great feedback ever since I joined. It boggles the mind how such a large community can merit so many helpful answers without the constant "you should know that, blah blah NOOB!" type answers that I've been merited in the past on other forums.

The GTP forums are my new homepage, and expect to see me registered at IDM in the next day or so, SD. ^_^

Thanks again, everyone!

If you have a good mind and approach to this forum we treat you the same way;) Oh and BTW SD, I like your picture thingers... I haven't got to say that because all your other ones were lock ones lol.

I'm with Mdnite on this one.

All new members take heed. TenTen has asked his questions in a polite and respectful manner with humility. That's the best way to get the advise/answers you're looking for without getting flamed or just ignored.

TEnTen: I think it's great that you've been able to learn so much. Now make a vid and show us what you've learned! :)

I'm working on it. I just need to pull a few extra hours at work, and I can probably procure a Dazzle thingy...my capturable computer blew up on me a few months ago.

^_^;

The tires I use are sims for each and every one of my cars (no matter what the HP level).the reason is because in my opinion the videogame tires regain traction to fast and thats something I hate.Also its fun drifting a viper with 1000+ hp

woah....its funner drifting a viper when its totally stock.
