Hi there. I have been an avid GT5 player for the last two years and my interest in the series has led me to collect the four other GT games (GT 1 through 4). I also dig my Logitech Driving Force Wireless steering wheel. One thing I really like about that wheel is that it has hand pedals rather than foot pedals, so I can sit back on the couch and still get the full wheel experience and analog gas/brake to boot.

I have GT 1 and 2 and can play them with my PS2, but my wheel uses USB so obviously it is not compatible with both games. I am very interested in whether anyone uses or used a PS2 wheel (using the old PS2/PS1 connection, not USB) with hand pedals that they can recommend. I'm not overly concerned about whether a wheel is outdated for today as long as I won't need to steer using the DS2 controller's analog stick. Thank you! 👍

You might be interested in a controller designed for racing games. I have never used one as I only have Xbox, but the reviews are ok.

Id recommend you one of those old Logitech units(Driving Force, Wingman), I believe they have hand controls. Before I got my G27 Ive been using a Trust GM-3200 wheel that connected through propietary PS port. That wheel had analogue flappy paddles that worked as gas and brake when the pedals were not connected, but that wheel was crap. A huge pile of crap. Other than that you can check for any cheap chinese wheel that has no ffb and is 'PS compatible'

Thanks, but as the subject of this thread states, I want a WHEEL.

Badger, thanks for your post. You indirectly reminded me to look for PS1 wheels as well as PS1+PS2 wheels - I forgot PS2 can handle wheels designed only for PS1 originally.

I hope more people reply here, as I missed the PS1 and GT1-2 boats a decade ago - GT5 is my first GT game. As it stands I am not terribly familiar with what the foot pedal-free options were back in the late 90's and early 00's. :)

Okay, I guess the old-school racers love their foot pedals. :) I was able to find these PS1-compatible wheels (I assume) with hand pedals after scouring eBay:

Thrustmaster Enzo Ferrari 2 in 1
Has both PS1/2 and USB ports. Comes with foot pedals but it can be detached. The wheel also has 4 hand pedals, 2 for gas/brake and 2 for gears. That wheel was my first choice but I couldn't find it online so I bought my second choice:

Naki Racing Wheel
http://www.ebay.com/itm/230861790598
I don't know its actual name because I just bought it used off eBay. It is very similar in design to these other two Naki wheels:
-Naki International 57063 Touring Wheel
-Naki Rocker 2.5e Wheel
The design of all 3 wheels seem to be identical. I will get the first Naki wheel listed above in the mail next week and I am hoping for the best.

Pelican GT2 Racing Wheel

This wheel's button layout similar to Naki's design, although the shoulder buttons are fatter and the Start/Select/Mode buttons are rearranged. I'm not fond of the design. I don't understand why any wheel would have the top cut off rather than the bottom (like, for example, the Mad Catz Dual Force).
-Pelican also made another wheel called the Sportster. It has the exact same design as the GT2, but I love the color. Too bad it isn't circular or I would have gotten that instead of the Naki wheel.

GameStop Racing Wheel
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Playstation-steering-wheel-/330725951612
This store's generic wheel has a fully circular wheel like Naki and Thrustmaster, but apparently no shoulder buttons. The hand pedals also look smaller than the other wheels'. It is ugly too - not nice and circular like a real steering wheel but rather it looks like it couldn't decide if it wanted to have a flat bottom like the Dual Force or if it wanted to be circular.

Saitek RX600

Panned by reviews for weird button layouts, very hard to reach hand pedals, and narrow base (bad for holding on the lap).

Any glaring omissions, please let me know! 👍

EDIT: There is another Naki wheel called the Naki N4 Mini Racing Wheel that is identical to the wheel I got, only it has a tall and narrow base and a detachable wide base for the lap.

Anyway the Naki Touring Wheel I got (looks identical but has a red instead of a blue trim) works with GT1 and GT2. :)
