Okay, so I'm getting the Logitech Driving Force GT next week! It was $89~ with $9.99 shipping on Amazon.com and I'm probably going to build the stand for it tomorrow.

So far, I've been a DualShock 3 user on all the GT games. I've drove on the Driving Force on a PS2 on GT4. And...I sucked it up. Granted, I had a Nissan Skyline on the 'Ring, but it isn't comforting that I might not be great with a wheel.

So are there any tips for a noob starting out on a wheel? Is it similar to driving a real car(I have a '99 Pontiac Grand Am, and it's an underpowered FF)? I think I'll probably start slow, and work my way up.

Any tips and help will help. Thanks,

I recently got a g25, and getting a wheel was the best thing I could have ever done...start out on slower cars and work your way up, you might want to start on easier tracks to if like me it's completely un-natural at first. Good luck with your wheel mate.

it won't really be like driving a real car at all for you, at least it sure isn't to me, not even close... but it is a very smooth and enjoyable way to race cars in game... practice like mad, and most importantly, don't get frustrated.... It took me a long time when I got my wheel to get used to it, it'll probably take you a while too, as stated above, start slow, give it time, and make sure to have fun and enjoy the immersion that a wheel provides with driving games... The license tests are a good place to start since they give you an easy means of practising corners over and over while you figure it out.

Thats the same thing I was going to say.

That is what I did. Just got a wheel for GT5 too. It really helped with learning to play with something Ive never used before. The braking tests help with setting abs to your liking (I have the clubsport pedals) It also helps in determining where to set your Force Feedback levels. For example I have 3 presets so far. One for the lower end cars/ non racing cars, one for racing cars, one for the karts, etc.

You get the point
Anyways have fun with your wheel. I love mine

My advice is definitely start slow. The steering can feel fairly realistic, but you'll probably have to relearn how to use those pedals. Spend a lot of time getting used to braking. In real life you can develop feel for the braking based on force. With the DFGT it's about pedal position, and I find that to be very awkward, coming from a real car. You may want to start with ABS cranked up a bit, then work that setting down while getting the hang of threshold braking.

I can strongly recommend changing the settings on GT5 for the wheel mode from "Arcade" to "Simulation". You would think that arcade mode was easier to control, but I found the possosite, as in, Simulation mode was much easier to control than arcade.

Ok, possibly a red stripe with a white outline. It's gotta be fancy!

And donavanbadboy, welcome to GTPlanet!
