I have some 18" wheels. They are silver painted with a polished lip. But It looks kinda dull now. I want to paint them myself but I'd like to know what type of spray on paint I should use. Colors I'm considering:

Gold Metalic
Bronz Metalic
Metalic Blue

They would be going on a red car.

Powder coating would be your best bet for them to stick. But if you do want to paint them yourself, Im sure you can find some type of wheel paints online. I work in a body shop, and I know that regular automotive paints will work on wheels as long as a good and generous coating of clear is used.

My bother has painted 626 GT, 1st gen Probe GT, and Maxima(forgot what year, they are mesh wheels, light wieght) wheel metallic grey. They all look good...he used a wheel spray paint. On the Probe he left the rim silver but painted the spokes and center. He did the same on the Maxima wheels but sanded the rim to polished aluminum and they look cool.

I don't know where he got the paint though...he's really good with paint stuff..his MX-6 had some rust so he cut out the rusted parts of the body, put in new metal(and puddy) and spray painted the parts black, and with some wet sanding and buffing it matched the Mazda paint perfectly.

Thats some good advice to start. I will be leaving the rim polished. It alread has a sparkly sliver to it. I am a former owner of an 88 626 GT Turbo. Very nice cars.

I will post pictures if and when I have painted them.

What kind of car, and what is the wheel design like? That'll affect what will look good and what not.

Its a red 97" Mitsubishi Eclipse.

Here are the old 18" rims I had.

They have "rim" paint at Kragens but I'm not sure if your area has that store? I was thinking of painting mine but don't have the time or the guts. They are so chewed up anyways, it be a pain in the ass I bet.

Edit: Mazkid, you got any pic of your brothers work?
