I'm planning on buying a wheel.
My 18th birthday is comming soon so I don't have to worry about the price.
I have searched a bit and I got some informations.
DFGT is hard to find now (the official GT5:Prologue wheel).
TS500R isn't available in Serbia yet.
So, is then G27 the only way to go?
How bad is the lack of support by GT5?
Is G27 working good with GT5 even with the lack of support?
Sorry if this has been asked before.
 
Well I got a g27 and for racing its better then the dfgt. But for drifting... I can't say the same.. You use the o button on the shifter and its so ANOOOYING!!

I use a G27 - I recommend it (if you can find one).

To answer your question: The lack of support translates to you not being able to 1. honk your horn 2. use your wipers when there's no rain. Who cares? not me.

All I need is good force feedback and low/high beam lights (as far as the buttons go), G27 has these?

I use the G27 and my wife uses the DFGT.

Both are good wheels, and any wheel is better than the controller.

The G27 is smoother and quieter than the DFGT. Also, the G27 pedals have much better resistance than the DFGT.

I would have been happy with the DFGT if I didn't have a G27.

I highly recommend the G27.

Ha, yea, the G27 has TOO many buttons and no mapping feature (*lack of support). So, what you get by default, are 2 out of 6 buttons that work on the face of the wheel (those lil red buttons). One to look "behind" you & one to flash your lights.

The whole "O" button thing: he is talking about using the "e-brake" - if you want to e-break around a corner, there's no other way to do it, but to reach out away from EVERYTHING else and hit a button on the H-Shifter button set while trying to race. Not fun for guys who like to drift.

Besides these small (in my opinion) annoyances, a G27 is LOADS better than a DFGT - in quality and performance.

Buy one, then buy a good stand. Get a G25/G27 Stand from Wheelstandpro.com - they have a US & International store.
 
Listen guys the g27 is amazing and the lack of support is not a big deal. U know what I did and I found it on here with pic.

I velcro'd a old controller to the center of the wheel so all my buttons are there on that. I use the controller as 1 and the wheel as 2 and it works fine. I remapped the buttons so ebrake, Ra function and reverse is all on the buttons inches from my right thumb. Comes in handy to for tuning and Cruising lobby's. Always handy.

As far as getting the g27, DO IT. I bought mine 3 weeks ago after alot of research and it is better than I thought. Takes a bit to get fast but now I'm as fast as I was. G27 is awesome.
 
Ok, when I buy a wheel it'll be G27 deffo.
Just want to know some more things, the peddals, they're metal, right? And is the resistance good, like in real car (nearly as in real car)?
Is FF and wheel rumble (I've heard G27 has it, someone explain please) strong enough?
Does G27 have FF better than DFGT (I used DFGT back in 2008 on GT5:P, I was amazed)?

Yes the pedals have metal pads and they do feel real. Brake gets firmer as u push and gas and clutch are looser. The rumbling is good when u go over a curb the wheel rumbles and you can feel the back slideout on cars. Very real. If you put the force feedback on 10 and drive the x2010 I believe it'll rip your arms off.

One thing you might want to know about the G27 is the reverse issue.

If you are driving with the paddle shifters, just press the triangle button to back up. Easy. But if you are using the stick, you have hit one one of the paddles — so that the wheel think you are using paddles — and then triangle will work. Just can't go straight from driving the stick to reverse; gotta throw in that bogus shift. You really get used to it though.

Don't let this minor issue make you think twice about buying the G27. It's a great wheel, I love it mine death :D The lack of official compatibility isn't even noticeable when you're out there driving. You can stall out, there's force feedback, the rev lights work — all that good stuff.

And now that that's out of the way, to OP's point about realistic pedals, I can't say that the G27 pedals feel like RL car pedals, particularly the brake. It's just a different mechanism (G27 uses spring resistance while RL brakes feel more like hydraulic resistance).

I'm saying this so that you can do a bit more research on wheels. If pedals are important to you, I've heard that the Fanatec wheels with Clubsport pedals are the way to go. Of course that comes with a price, so depends on what you want :)

For me, I'm well satisfied with my G27.
 
Hey dude,

Sounds like you've made your decision, but I'd like to put in a plug for Fanatec.

I've got the first gen wheel - the Porsche 911 Turbo, and it's very good. Full compatibility with GT5 (i.e. can customise buttons) and a great feel. The H-shifter is a bit 'clicky', and reverse can be a pain to get into (it's out to the left on the dog-leg), but these aren't major issues. I'm sure any of the later wheels they do will be just as cool.

It was cheaper for me here in New Zealand than a G25 (the G27 wasn't out when I bought it), but I got a good price from a local online store.

Fanatec also have a very cool (and relatively cheap) wheel stand, but I made my own out of some planks of wood and a lawnmower handle. 👍

You can shift into reverse with the stick. Push and hold the stick down into the base then move it over to sixth:)

But for the commercial range, you're well placed in the G27 range, maybe a Fanatec GT3/2 with Clubsport Pedals...mhmhh, yummi yummi.

Are you referring to me? Because I don't hold a controller, I use the triangle key on shifting unit.
