wheels with analog inputs/paddles?

Hi everybody,

Some may remember a similar thread I made earlier, but it's been awhile & I'm hoping ther're more options out there.. As the title states, I'm looking for wheels with inputs that can be used in an analog/non-digital mode. The reason being I'm disabled, unfortunately rendering pedals useless, (unless I made realistic controls - more on that in a second), so I'm looking for a wheel which I can assign variable throttle/brake to something operated by my hands. (preferably the paddles) I want to use said wheel for both PC and PS3 (especially LFS & GT5) gaming. So far, the only ones I know of for sure are Thrustmaster's RGT and the Logitech Driving Force Wireless. I'd spring for the RGT, but everything I've read states it being incompatible with GT5. :( (and I need something with a decent mounting system, which the wireless doesn't possess) My ultimate goal is to get something along the lines of a G25 & build a setup that'd allow the integration of hand controls similar to what I've got in my real cars, but that'll be awhile as they get most of my money! :D Soo as always, thanks in advance & I hope someone can help me in my quest. 👍

EDIT - Oh yeah.. I heard there were aftermarket add-ons available for the DFP. I wouldn't be opposed to such, (for any wheel), if the cost wasn't tooo ridiculous & they helped achieve my goals..

I have two different ideas for you if it helps. The first would be to come up with a mounting solution for the Logitech Wireless wheel. The left and right sides of that wheel could be held down with clamps from a hardware store or could be drilled through and bolted to a table top or stand. Looking at that wheel it should be safe to drill there.

The other idea is more complicated, but when looking at custom handbrakes made by chilicoke and others one could build a similar handle and attach the potentiometers and wiring from a pedal set to perform the hand controls you are looking for. DIY may not be your preferred path, but I think it would be the closest to get what you are trying to replicate from your real car.

Thanks for the ideas Mike. 👍 I suppose the best all-round solution would be to do something electrical, as per your 2nd proposal. (a task that's always taunted me) I'm no stranger to soldering & whatnot, but am not the most learn-ed when it comes to choosing specific pots/components etc. Maybe I can find some write-ups to help out in that department. If I could pull it off, it'd be much less pricey & take up waay less space, (compared to basically using a real set of hand controls mounted to some type of column etc). I'm somewhat afraid I'd break whatever I came up with as well, but yea..

And dang, nobody else? I mean, the DFP looks like it could have analog "paddles", though I've never got a definitive answer. I SO wish more companies would simply make their paddles dual purpose, heh. :indiff:
