Answer: When you perform chassis stiffening or fit low profile tyres!

So after trying to come to grips with the 1.04 shambles of an update and how it has destroyed the handling of some cars (e.g Ruff RGT) and turned some MR cars into race cars (e.g NSX Hondas) my friends and I have discovered this tuning conundrum.

So I usually race in "Tuning Prohibited" lobbies but have now discovered (unlike GT5) Chassis stiffening is now not considered a tuning aid or the fitment of low profile tyres. Even though both these *modifications* give a noticeable performance increase.

So can someone please explain to me *HOW* by adding extra welds and gussets that stiffen a cars chassis is *NOT* tuning!? BUT performing an every day wheel alignment (camber, toe-in etc) is considered tuning?

I could almost accept different wheel sizes as these *can* be options on some cars, sometimes, at a real dealership BUT I would have expected the game to negate any performance difference as a matter of fairness or classed it as a tuning aid.

I think this is just another fine example of how this "Broken Game" has gotten it wrong - AGAIN!

But SRF is ok in time trials????

Having bigger or smaller wheels has no effect on performance in GT6 as far as I'm aware. The +1 and +2 for wheels is only visual.

I thought this as well until we did some testing last night. With 1.04 there is a distinct improvement in handling using +2" wheels on a stock Ruff RGT at 500PP at The Ring. I am still to test other cars.

Different wheel sizes are a Placebo effect, however they do look nice

In "PD World" tuning is now not tuning, & gravity works sideways, & if it ain't broke fix it till it is.

This & other unintelligible nonsense is brought to you by our mysterious sponsors, Polyphony Digital!

:dopey:

Why would chassis stiffening be consider tuning? Once its done its done you can't adjust it in anyway. Same for rims once they are on the car you can't adjust them. Tuning is anything you can adjust.

Modifications that affect the performance of a vehicle is considered as tuning in this context.

For example; everyone would consider adding racing-exhaust as tuning even if it is a non-adjustable part.

See I would consider exhaust or any other power upgrade, even changing tire compound part of the build. Even the act of putting race suspension on the car is part of the build. I would never consider a car with stiffen chassis rims power upgrades and race suspension and transmission a tuned car if none of the tuning options have been touched.

Has anyone actually tested whether chassis stiffening is faster? For all cars, stock settings?

Just tried it on the 86 seasonal, car seemed to roll over a lot easier (last corner) with stiff chassis. Lap times were very close.

But SRF is ok in time trials????

I fear for the better half of the GT Academy Finalists that mashed their way through time trials, only to get in a real car and become a paraplegic in Turn 1. I don't even want to induce better times with this horrible aid. I have tried it, particularly on the recent XBow Seasonal, where no aids got me in top 3,000 (courtesy of Motor City Hami tunes) , still missing 5 seconds between first place, due to the halo-SRF scheme.

The real question bears this, does anyone here on GTPlanet , stiffen their chassis, while NOT changing their suspension to custom?

I didn't think so either. Chassis and suspension go hand in hand, therefore, tuning.

I never really stiffened, only due to the fact I hate induced understeer, and I am no expert in spring rate adjusting, without the help of a mysterious spread sheet calculator.

although something I've changed about my view on spring rate adjusting,

it's not really about the numbers anymore for me, look at the SLIDER itself! it has a range, left to right! this is what PD gave us, a SLIDER! think about it, and try some tunes this way, ignoring the "digits"

you may be pleasantly surprised. I came to this realization yesterday when trying to tune the Lambo Diablo GT2 '98, scratching my head at the 27kg rate in the rear... then I just looked at the sliders and set them to 1/3rd from left.

I can safely lap the ring with Sport mediums and have a good time with it.

SO putting a racing exhaust on, that wouldn't be street legal and would put up the power of the car significantly... to you, is not tuning?

Of course it's tuning. It's not the stock condition of the car.
You're conflating "tuning adjustments" with plain "tuning".

Indeed, what you reffer to as plain tuning I call building. So yes in that aspect chassis stiffing could be called tuning it alters the car from stock.

Well then it's just semantics.

But pretty sure it's considered all "tuning" by the game definition.

Of course remember there are translations involved of course.

My husband has a Japanese made RC helicopter and all over the box it says (in English) "Hold Your Heart".
Of course on the RC forums, there are many laughs about this among English speakers. Because it just sounds weird! :odd: We don't say that!
Well, it's kind of like that "nose bleed" misunderstanding.

I guess we should just be glad that most things have been translated pretty well in GT, overall.

In GT5 Chassis Stiffening was *Tuning* and a modded car could not enter a "Tuning Prohibited" race. In GT6 the same "Chassis Stiffened" car *CAN* enter a Tuning Prohibited Race. So it has nothing to do with semantics or a lack of accurate translations.

Also you are totally missing the point about racing stock/standard/unmodified cars against each other. It defeats the purpose if *SOME* have been modified.

Definition: modified = anything done to a vehicle subsequently after delivery from the dealership as presented by the game. (Obviously general maintenance is allowed)

I was talking about specifically what I quoted (the first time).
I'm not sure what you think I was talking about.

Obviously I see this as a problem.

My issue was with that person's definition. He thinks it's RIGHT and that in fact, tuning prohibited should allow any upgrades - just not adjustments - or at least htat's what he made it sound like.

@TT92 , were you even listening to @watermelonpunch 's story?

Out of curiosity I did it to my GT-R, which prior to then had been a very handy and much used car. I quite thoroughly regret it, as it turned the car into a mental. Sure I just did the chassis stiffening and went out on the track, so it's not like I've spent any time re-tuning it. And I can't really be bothered, so I'm just gonna buy another GT-R and set it up how it was before.

Be more careful, you don't want to run out of GT-Rs
